    Breakthrough for the United States!

The goal which this game deserved has finally arrived, sparking wild celebrations among the Americans here.

Emma Hayes waited for a few seconds, pausing to see if the flag was raised, before joining in.

As the photo below shows, the Stars and Stripes are quickly unfurled.

The contrasting emotions shown by the Brazilian fella sat behind them with his head bowed.

Austria's early effort to get the lap might be about to backfire on them.

They look spent, and are losing touch of the peloton.

If they lose the lap, they will lose those 20 points.

Choong didn't have the best of fencing rounds, but was just seven points off the leaders in the riding.

He's currently 57 points off leader Ahmed Elgendy of Egypt and 35 points off a place in the medals.

If I had one euro for every time I have heard Freed From Desire this Games, I'd be able to buy a luxury yacht and moor it off the Cote d'Azur.

Which is probably where Gala is kicking back and enjoying the royalties from the revival of her 90s club classic.

But guess what? Not everyone in the world knows it.

Imagine my surprise when an American broadcaster in the media centre wondered what the Paris 2024 earworm was after the DJ pressed play yet again at half-time.

Thankfully I was on hand to provide the info quicker than Shazam.

They've also just picked up a further 20 points for gaining a lap on the main field.

Will we see a winner in the next 45 minutes, or could extra time and penalties be required?

    Track cycling - men's madison

Next up it's the men's madison, with Ollie Wood and Mark Stewart pairing up for Team GB.

    But what is the madison?

A relay race on the track, two riders compete per team over 200 laps with points awarded for an intermediary sprint every 10 laps.

While one rider races, the other slows down to rest around the top of the track, before swapping places with their team-mate by the means of a handsling back into the action.

The classification is decided on the total of points won at the end of the race, with double points awarded for the final sprint.
