Championship: London Welsh 23-18 Jersey Reds
- Published
Jersey Reds suffered their third consecutive Championship loss as London Welsh got back to winning ways at Old Deer Park.
Tries from wingers George Watkins and Rich Lane put Jersey 12-3 up but hooker Adam Kwasnicki crashed over from two mauls to help Welsh lead at half time.
Miles Mantella scored out wide to extend the home side's advantage.
Jersey could not find a way through despite Joe Carlisle's yellow card for a deliberate knock on.
The Reds had gone into the game looking for a first league win over Welsh at the fifth time of asking, and good handling found Watkins who burst through to put the visitors ahead before Lane's score in the corner gave Jersey a nine-point lead midway through the half.
Welsh battled their way back though as Kwasnicki twice went over at the other end to put the hosts in front.
Sam Katz's penalty levelled the scores but Glyn Hughes slotted one over with the final kick of the half to hand the Exiles an 18-15 lead at the break.
The islanders started the second period brightly and pulled level again, but London Welsh came back when Mantella found space to score his side's third try.
Replacement full-back Carlisle was shown yellow for a deliberate knock-on, but Jersey could not get a score during the 10-minute spell with a man advantage.
The result takes Welsh above Jersey into fifth spot, while the Reds' losing bonus point keeps them in the top half of the Championship table.
