Summary

  • Kate Williams try gives Wales early lead but Italy reply through Sofia Stefan's try and the boot of Michela Sillari, only for Gwenllian Pyrs to score on stroke of half-time to retake lead for Wales.

  • Francesca Granzotto twice, Silvia Turani, Vittoria Minuzzi and Aura Muzzo cross as Italy take control after break; Wales' misery compounded by Natalia John's late sin bin for head-on-head contact.

  • Game moved back a day from Saturday due to the funeral of Pope Francis.

Clearly a bit of a change of tactic from Italy, they have kicked more in these few minutes of the second half than they did in the whole first half.

At the moment Wales are winning this kicking battle which is good to see.

Lleucu George unleashes another howitzer of a kick upfield.

For a tantalising moment it looked as though it would hold up perfectly for Carys Cox but then it bounces into touch.

But Wales are back upfield after a lively start by Italy.

Italy wing Alyssa D'Inca did not make it out for the second half and Francesca Granzotto gets her first appearance of the championship.

There's no excuse for the handling errors in terms of the weather, it's perfect conditions.

You can only put it down to nerves and pressure.

Both teams have also conceded six penalties.

Sara Tounesi's cat-flap pass almost opens a try but it's knocked on by fellow lock Duca with the try-line begging.

    Big let off for Wales.

Lleucu George knocks on with her first touch of the second half.

Not the start she or Wales wanted.

Last week a try just before half-time for Ireland was crucial and that could be the same this week for Wales.

It would have been a completely different changing room at half-time than if they hadn't got that score.

"They have to focus on what's working for them and that's the lineout. They've got the lead, now they have to make sure they can hold onto it.

Big 40 minutes for both sides.

We have converted a couple of opportunities in the corner, but I'd like to see a bit more collision dominance.

If we can build on those phases we can put more points on the board.

Ceri just mentioned the Welsh bench and what Sean Lynn does with his replacements.

Here's what he said earlier this week.

Not only are Wales winning at half-time for the first time in the tournament, they've got a replacement bench packed with impact players.

Alex Callender and Carys Phillips will be champing at the bit to get on having started last weekend against Ireland.

It will be interesting to see when Sean Lynn makes the changes - but one thing that's for sure, Wales are going to need to be on it for the whole 80 minutes today or Italy will make them pay.

That's huge for confidence going into half-time.

There are areas they need to tighten up on, but if they do that this game is within their reach.

Brilliant way to finish the half!

They need to build from the kick-off in the second half and get a foothold in the game.

They get it in added time!

Again it stems from the lineout but Wales did what they didn't do last time. They kept it tight, kept their patience as Kelsey Jones and Gwen Crabb go close before the big prop burrows over from inches out to get the ball down on the line.

Bevan converts and somehow Wales are ahead at the break.

I'd like to see Wales mix it up, maybe a dummy drive and hit Courtney Keight up in the seem between the forwards and backs.

They did that earlier in the game and it worked well for them.

Another Welsh attack grinds to a halt as wing Lisa Neuman fumbles the ball in a tackle.

But it looked as though their driving lineout was making headway then and they should have kept it tight.

The seats have certainly filled up since my last comment on crowds and these Italian fans are really getting behind their team.

Chants of "Italia, Italia" are filling the ground.

Italy haven't won at home since beating Ireland in 2023, oh how they would love to finish on a high today.
