    Italy 10-5 Wales

Veronica Madia is such a threat with that little chip over the top of the on-rushing Welsh defence.

Italy's attack just fumbles but it's fingertip stuff and one of these attacks is going to stick soon.

    Italy 10-5 Wales

Some big hits by Georgia Evans and Kelsey Jones but Italy are so quick in getting the ball out of the tackle with their offloads that they're still a threat.

Wales need to try and reduce the mistakes.

They have been in control of this game, it is not out of their grasp, but mistakes have let Italy into the game.

    Italy 10-5 Wales

Wales run through an attack move as Hannah Jones trucks it up the middle and Lleucu George spins the ball wide to Jaz Joyce but it all comes to nothing as Italy's defence are first to the tackle.

Italy are winning the breakdown contest.

    Italy 10-5 Wales

Jaz Joyce briefly wins the battle of the full-backs.

The Welsh 15 runs back a kick and beats the first tackler - as she so often does.

Italy's Minuzzi knocks on attempting to field a spiralling high kick and Wales win a penalty that they kick to the corner - but Italy defend the rolling maul well and the chance is gone.

    Italy 10-5 Wales

Wales have scored twice as many points than at the same stage of last year's championship.

But their passing today just isn't looking slick at all - especially compared to Italy.

    Michela Sillari

There's a pause in play for an injury and both sides will be grateful for a breather.

The masked centre boots Italy five points ahead.

    Italy 7-5 Wales

Italy are back up in that right-hand corner but this time hooker Vecchini misses her target and Wales are able to scramble it clear.

This game has very quickly turned on its head.

Too many missed tackles from Wales, they will be very disappointed in that.

A loose Welsh kick is returned with interest as Italy's big ball-carrying forwards do some damage.

    Italy 0-5 Wales

Wales blow the lineout and flanker Beatrice Veronese is almost over.

Oh Italy should have levelled then.

    Italy 0-5 Wales

First warning signs from this exciting Italian backline.

It's all from the boot of fly-half Veronica Madia who first chips over the top of the Welsh defence.

That's followed by a left-foot kick to the corner but the bounce just beats the wing D'Inca.

    Italy 0-5 Wales

It's worth pointing out that Wales scored first against England and Ireland... but lost both pretty easily.

And they've just given away a needless penalty in midfield and Italy finally get a foothold.

That was straight from the training ground.

Really simple, win the line-out, bring it down and pack the punch in to get the try.

    It just had to come.

The driving lineout from five metres out is so hard to stop when it's done right and Wales certainly got it right then.

The conversion drifts wide but Wales draw first blood and it's the least they deserve.

    Italy 0-0 Wales

    Elinor Snowsill
Former Wales fly-half on BBC Radio Wales

Italy are bringing a lot of line speed and are looking very organised.

I'd like to see the Wales players hold their depth a little bit, there have been a lot of forced passes.

    Italy 0-0 Wales

This is relentless pressure from Wales.

Sean Lynn was fuming that they didn't capitalise on early chances last week against Ireland.

Can Wales make the most of this opening? It's been absolutely non-stop.

    Italy 0-0 Wales

Wales are probing and pressing, looking for an opening but Italy are holding out.

Carys Cox just smashed off three tackles before being stopped.

Wales are dominating the opening exchanges.

  19. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Italy 0-0 Wales

Jaz Joyce is a real pocket powerhouse.

The Wales full-back runs back an Italian kick, steps past one defender and then just keeps those legs pumping in the next tackle and Wales win a penalty.

We can see Wales' ambition in attack, they were looking to spread the ball quite early.

It's probably a little early for that, and that's why we saw them go backwards.
