It was a day to remember for England who ended their four-match losing streak against Scotland to keep alive their Six Nations title hopes.

Scotland will be left disappointed as they came within a kick of making it five in a row over their rivals.

That is why we love the Six Nations, until next time.

There was plenty of optimism around Scotland this Six Nations. Is time running out for their golden generation of players?

Wins over Wales and France will be essential to finish their campaign on a high. One massive win (usually over England) is now the norm in a Six Nations for Scotland - losses against Ireland and England put pressure on that France game.

Good on England for winning. Excellent defence and effort in the second half, if little else. People will say that Scotland should have won it but that's on them - if they don't execute, this can happen. There are no asterisks on any result.

    England Rugby

More from Steve Borthwick: "Things needed to be tweaked [at half-time].

"Our physical intensity needed to go up and it did in the second half, our bench had a really good impact again. It's the 23-man effort.

"Whilst there were bits in that game that weren't pretty, it's edge of the seat finales.

"You saw a very happy Allianz Stadium at the end of the game."

  9. 'This young group stayed in the fight'published at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time

    FT: England 16-15 Scotland

    England Rugby

England head coach Steve Borthwick, speaking to ITV: "Every game is important for England and you have to give Scotland credit, as they played a real smart game.

"They put pressure on you and as soon as they get a chance they move the ball wide quickly.

"This young group stayed in the fight and they kept composure and they kept running hard. They eventually found a way to win."

  10. Watch: Russell's missed kickpublished at 19:24 Greenwich Mean Time

Scotland had 59% of territory and 58% possession.

Outscored England three tries to one

    Carried 936m to 474m

    Gained 521m to 323m

Mande nine line breaks to two

    Beat 35 defenders to 10

    Made 247 passes to 99

Was that a snatch and grab by England?

  12. 'Russell has kicked a lot of very important points for us'published at 19:20 Greenwich Mean Time

    FT: England 16-15 Scotland

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend, speaking to BBC Scotland: "I'm proud of how we played today. In the first half, our execution was very good - our contact work was outstanding.

"We created opportunities. We scored three tries and will look back and think we could have scored more. In a lot of ways it was a better performance than we've had down here when we've won.

"England defended very well. They are very good in their own 22. Credit goes to them. With that amount of possession we're normally good at converting into points. Today we didn't do that often enough.

"Finn was a big part of us getting three tries. He has kicked a lot of very important points for us in the past.

"The reality is we didn't win and are likely now not going to win the championship. It's a performance we can build on over the next two rounds."

  15. 'There's no excuse for a drop-off now'published at 19:12 Greenwich Mean Time

    FT: England 16-15 Scotland

Scotland co-captain Rory Darge, speaking to BBC Scotland: "We scored more tries, but to be honest there were a lot of opportunities that we didn't make the most of.

"Part of that is England defended well, but we know we made enough opportunities to win that game, we maybe just didn't execute.

"It is tough. It was a big game in terms of the championship and obviously it's Scotland-England. We're gutted we couldn't get a win.

"There's no excuse for a drop-off now. We need to deliver in the next two games."

England captain Maro Itoje, speaking to ITV: "The performance was a bit mixed.

"Scotland played a lot in our half and we didn't exit the way we wanted but we did fight and scrap. There is loads for us to get better at but we are delighted to win.

"In the first half and the second half, we probably didn't play as much as we wanted and Scotland probably played more than us but we were more clinical than we have been.

"There is a feeling we are going to score so we just need to find ways of being there more and then we will execute more."
