That's one of the downsides of Marcus Smith playing at full-back. That's a difficult position to play at the best of times but especially when you have Van der Merwe coming at you.

    England 7-10 Scotland

Scotland go in search of another score. They have started much sharper than England. The ball though goes down and England will put into the scrum.

A penalty is the result and the hosts clear long.

Duhan van der Merwe and Ollie Lawrence were once at Worcester together. It didn't look like they were reminising over old times after that Huw Jones try.

Van der Merwe seemed to take exception to Lawrence holding him on the floor and then delight in his team-mate's try.

  4. 'Good hands and a nice wrap-around'published at 17:10 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

    England 7-10 Scotland

    Fraser Brown
Former Scotland hooker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is a great set-piece move by Scotland.

They take the quick option and it's just good hands with a nice wrap-around in the number 13 channel.

Duhan van der Merwe is terrorising people on that wing.

    Huw Jones

    You are right Andy!

Scotland get the ball as quickly as possible to Duhan van der Merwe and the big basher does his thing. Marcus Smith falls off the tackles before the ball finds its way to Huw Jones who finishes sharply in the corner.

The game has hit a bit of a lull after an explosive start.

It's like two boxers who wobbled each other in the opening round but are now covering up and getting back behind the jab.

As we've seen already though, this can spark into life at any moment.

    Matt Dawson

Both sides are trying to get into their patterns.

As soon as both nines get the ball, there is no messing and they are waiting to see who is going to make a mistake first.

  8. Postpublished at 18 mins

    England 7-5 Scotland

Steve Borthwick spoke a lot about England's new fast attack that scored four tries against France. We haven't seen much of that so far, lots of box kicking from Alex Mitchell.

  9. 'Sloppy Scotland'published at 17:03 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

    England 7-5 Scotland

    Fraser Brown
Former Scotland hooker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Scotland cannot afford a scrum inside the England 22 and then being sloppy on the bind.

It's an easy penalty for the referee to give.

  10. Postpublished at 15 mins

    England 7-5 Scotland

Scotland are pinged at scrum time after initially doing well to turn the ball over. England will be happy to be ahead given the possession.

The Twickenham crowd allow themselves a little giggle as a big-screen replay shows Blair Kinghorn's overhead offload bounce into touch off Kyle Rowe's head.

They wouldn't have been laughing if Rowe had gone over after a smart scissors with David Cherry a minute before.

    Scotland have started well.

Scotland scoring early is the best thing that could have happened here for a neutral. This one is going to be an end-to-end game, but I can't see past an England win at HQ.

Blair Kinghorn holds the ball in one hand and throws it at the face of Kyle Rowe. A dropped ball and England are off the hook.

Kinghorn is looking sharp and will continue to try things.

    Tom English

Another blistering Scotland Calcutta Cup try for the pantheon. That's 20 tries they have scored against England since Gregor Townsend took over and the vast majority of them have been total belters. England torn apart. A familiar story.

  19. 'Another lazy kick'published at 16:52 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

    England 0-5 Scotland

    Fraser Brown
Former Scotland hooker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Just two years ago, England kicked long to Duhan van der Merwe and were sloppy.

It's another lazy kick and you cannot give this back three of Scotland time and space on those transition attacks.

Van der Merwe does so well.
