The first semi-final saw Kyren Wilson defeat David Gilbert 17-11 in seven hours and 46 minutes.

But that was a fairly open and free-flowing affair.

As both players are finding in this contest, once there has been a prolonged bout of safety and the balls are all over the place it is very difficult to win a frame at one visit.

That partly explains why the clock on this encounter is at the 11-hour-and-34-minute mark.

Stuart Bingham would undoubtedly have wanted to try and play more aggressively but Jak Jones has proved that he is so good at mopping frames up that it is now a risky strategy given the 2015 winner only has two frames to play with.

Stuart Bingham's 2015 world title might seem like a world away right now, but let's go back nine years...

After victory over Shaun Murphy, Bingham told BBC Sport's Owen Phillips his triumph meant he could upsize his modest Basildon home and get the "man cave" he always craved.

Murphy was hoping his own house-hunting would help him forget their thrilling final, which ended with the Essex man winning 18-15.

Bingham said: "Shaun has just moved to Nottinghamshire and told me he ended up driving through a place called Bingham.

"He said there was no way he could buy a house there, no matter how much he liked it. Too many bad memories."

I think we all need a break after that.

Make a cuppa, have a comfort break, do as you will.

We'll be back for the restart.

It was a tough frame to watch. Neither player wanted it to be like that but it's sometimes how it goes.

If there was a way for Stuart Bingham to get back into this, it was to forget how bad he's played - and frames like that are weird.

Maybe in hindsight Jak Jones missed a trick by not asking Stuart Bingham if he wanted a re-rack - despite Jak being 20 points ahead.

The penultimate red wobbles in the jaws but goes in.

An easy brown and final red to follow - and Stuart Bingham wins a must-win frame.

  8. 'Superb safety from both'published at 21:27 British Summer Time 4 May

If you are a snooker purist, some of these tactical exchanges will be a joy to behold. Earlier this week, Neil Robertson told me that he rated Jak Jones as one of the five best safety players in the world.

But there has been some absolutely some superb stuff from both players in that regard.

And another fantastic safety shot by Stuart Bingham to put Jak Jones behind the yellow now!

Bingham is playing Jones at his own game in this frame, really matching him in the safety department.

Jones escapes but leaves a chance...

Meanwhile, Stuart Bingham is doing his level best to get these reds into pottable positions.

He's knocked in another, followed by a pink, to stretch his lead to 12 points, before trapping Jak Jones in yet another difficult snooker.

Jones fouls twice but it's third time lucky. He trails by 20 points now though.

The miss rule was to guard against deliberate misses. When Jak Jones was snookered behind the green how could the ref give a miss? There was no other shot on. Ridiculous rule. How can this be applied in amateur snooker without the benefit of cameras? An alternative must be found.

This match is now 11 hours and 20 minutes old by my reckoning and we are still some way off firming up Kyren Wilson's World Championship final opponent.

Stuart Bingham cross-doubles a red then plays an aggressive safety using the brown to smash into some of those reds to try to bring an end to the deadlock.

He's five points ahead in this must-win frame.

Stuart Bingham develops one of those reds and, after Jak Jones misses a swerve attempt to pot it, the Englishman gets it and the black to follow.

In potting the black he tries to crash into the five other reds - but somehow finds the gap in the middle of them.

wgcsnooker: Why don't the snooker refs just have a hand-held tablet they can place on the table they can reference when sorting out balls after a miss?

  17. Postpublished at 21:11 British Summer Time 4 May

    Bingham 11-15 Jones

Tremendous long pink from Stuart Bingham to keep the break going - but there are still several reds all bunched up on the right-hand side cushion.

Yep, the break ends - and those six reds remain horribly positioned.

  18. Postpublished at 21:10 British Summer Time 4 May

    Bingham 11-15 Jones

Bit of fortune for Bingham - as he didn't leave Jak Jones anything easy.

Jones refuses a swerve on a red near the pocket - and puts Bingham back in! Bingham swerves it and pots it.... but isn't on an easy colour.

  20. Bingham blinks firstpublished at 21:08 British Summer Time 4 May

    Bingham 11-15 Jones

Just as Dennis Taylor was saying we could get a situation where the referee could inform each player they had three shots before a re-rack, Stuart Bingham misjudges a shot and knocks the black in.

    Normality resumed, to an extent.
