OK, that's the afternoon session done with.

We'll be back tonight as two of snooker's speedsters - 'Rocket' Ronnie O'Sullivan and 'Belgian Bullet' Luca Brecel - race to see who'll be first over the finishing line.

Both hold 12-4 leads over Pang Junxu and Ding Junhui respectively so each will be hoping for early nights to conserve the energy for battles ahead.

Or will we witness a comeback for the ages? Join us back here at 19:00 BST to find out.

I expected Si to have come on a bit more because he was really impressive in that [2023] World Championship.

I thought this was a guy for the future, a real prospect. But his actual game, I don't think has come on as much as I thought it would.

He's going to be tested against O'Sullivan - but he's got nothing to lose so enjoy it.

Si Jiahui speaking to BBC Two:

"I'm really happy that I won this game but I think it's the worst match I played at the Crucible ever. I think my opponent was not performing at his best.

"I think back in 2023 [when Si reached the semi-final] I was a more accurate player and playing with a better mindset. It was very pure, I was not over-thinking. I think I need to learn from my past to just play the match."

  4. 'This experience will be good for me'published at 16:10 British Summer Time

    Result: Si 13-10 Woollaston

Defeated Ben Woollaston speaking to BBC Two:

"The first session and a half I didn't really turn up to be honest, I had so many chances. I played better today but Si did really well the last three frames.

"I could have played better in both matches but this experience will be good for me going forward next season and the coming seasons.

"I've never experienced session after session, these long days. It's disappointing at the moment but it's been a good couple of weeks for me."

  5. 'Si will be relieved'published at 16:08 British Summer Time

    John Parrott
1991 world champion on BBC Two

It was nervy from both players. The first time Ben has played a best of 25, the furthest he has got in the competition.

For Si Jiahui, who would have been expecting to face Mark Selby, the pressure reverted onto him, as he would have been favourite to win.

He got over the line and he'll just be relieved to get into the quarter-final.

    Si 13-10 Woollaston

And there it is - fairly routine blue and pink to follow the fantastic brown.

Si Jiahui is into the World Championship quarter-finals for the second time in three years.

He beats Mark Selby's conqueror Ben Woollaston, finally pulling away in the final stretch of that last-16 tie.

With seven-time champion Ronnie O'Sullivan 12-4 up against Pang Junxu, it's likely the 'Rocket' who'll be next up for Si.

Ben Woollason has had his chances in this frame and misses a tough but gettable cut on the brown.

Si Jiahui thumps in an equally 50-50 pot... it's almost over...

    Si 12-10 Woollaston

Now level at 36-36 but Woollaston's only option is a safety on the brown.

He knows any error here could be his last at the Crucible this year.

Si Jiahui - with that two-frame advantage - goes for an outrageous double on the brown that is soooooooooo close. Nails being bitten aplenty!

    Si 12-10 Woollaston

Really tense finale to this frame.

Ben Woollaston back at the table but the colours are everywhere. Only two on their spots and the brown near a cushion.

Three points in it with five balls left.

Couple of decent pots from Ben Woollaston but he falters badly on a black with the rest - nowhere near. Pressure telling in this cannot-lose frame.

The balls are not placed nicely for a clearance but Si Jiahui should at least build a healthy lead.

    Si 12-10 Woollaston

Ben Woollaston, at the second attempt, escapes the snooker - but goes in off as the cue ball drops into the bottom right corner.

Si Jiahui, needing just this frame for victory, remember, pots another nice long red but again no colour to go with it - and, after a botched snooker, he leaves Woollaston a gimme red a couple of shots later.

  12. Postpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time

    Si 12-10 Woollaston

Si Jiahui crashes in an unbelievable long red and snookers Ben Woollaston right behind the yellow next shot.

Huge challenge for the Englishman to escape this and leave it safe. Quite a few reds spread out in the middle of the table.

A miss on a blue by Si Jiahui hands Ben Woollaston a bit of a reprieve after a poor earlier safety from the Leicester potter.

But it's a very messy table and Woollaston soon runs out of position. Back to the safety battle.

Ben Woollaston shot into the snooker spotlight with his surprise first-round win against Mark Selby at the World Championship.

If that surname rings a bell, then that might not be entirely down to Ben's snooker achievements alone.

Wife Tatiana is one of the sport's leading referees.

She is not allowed to take charge of Ben's matches to avoid any possible accusations of a conflict of interest, but has officiated on many of the sport's big occasions and first appeared at the World Championship in 2020.

Nervy moments on table one, which will dominate our attention now.

Ben Woollaston knows one mistake could see him out of the tournament.

There's a prolonged safety exchange here and Woollaston fouls by missing a red from the baulk cushion.

He's more successful with his next attempt.

Si Jiahui is seven points ahead, needing one frame to reach the quarter-finals and a potential clash with Ronnie O' Sullivan.

    Michael Emons
BBC Sport at the Crucible Theatre

World number one Judd Trump held off Shaun Murphy's fightback to win an epic last-16 tie and move into the quarter-finals of the World Championship.

Trump looked set for a routine victory when he led 12-6 but missed a red into the middle pocket and Murphy capitalised by reeling off four frames in a row.

However, 2019 champion Trump held his nerve to take the 23rd frame for a 13-10 win and set up a match against either 2023 winner Luca Brecel or 2016 runner-up Ding Junhui in the quarter-final.

On Sunday, Trump made the two century breaks he needed to reach the 100-ton mark for the season, an achievement that earned him a £100,000 bonus.

The 35-year-old could become the first player to top £2m in prize money in a single season if he wins the world title, the prize for which is £500,000.

Quarter-finalist Judd Trump speaking to BBC Two:

"Shaun was in a world of his own for four or five frames and I was a little bit worried but I had to back myself in that last frame.

"In the past I've been a bit hard on myself but I'm a lot stronger mentally and I've learned to appreciate the losses and use them as motivation.

"I'm a lot more confident this year, I'm hitting the ball a lot better. I probably have a bit more belief in myself and I feel a lot more calm.

"It's pretty much every single day [you play] now - you are looking to that next session every time. It's only going to get tougher, we're not even halfway there now.

"It was an extremely tough draw to be playing Shaun at this stage with the form he was in."

Players from eight countries have won snooker's most prestigious title and become a world champion - but China is still waiting for its first success.

Could 2025 be the year that changes?

Six of the 16 players in this year's second-round line-up were from China, with England having the next highest total with five.

Zhao Xintong is into the last eight, and could be joined by Si Jiahui.

"This has got to be the biggest year for China in terms of chances of having a world champion," said Jason Ferguson, chairman of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA).

"These boys have no fear and really want it. If a Chinese player became a world champion there's no doubt that player would become a national hero."
