Well, it was brief - but it was enjoyable. As watching geniuses like Ronnie O'Sullivan and Luca Brecel at work usually is.

They'll both have longer days on Tuesday as the quarter-finals get under way - and, as Steve Davis says, what a cracking quartet of ties we have in store.

We'll be back right here at 10:00 BST to resume the fun.

In the meantime, on the night Ronnie O'Sullivan reached a record-extending 23rd World Championship quarter-final, thanks for joining us and goodnight.

  2. Tuesday's schedulepublished at 20:18 British Summer Time 28 April

    John Higgins v Mark Williams

    14:30

    Ronnie O'Sullivan v Si Jiahui

    Luca Brecel v Judd Trump

    19:00

  3. 'What a line-up'published at 20:17 British Summer Time 28 April

    Steve Davis
Six-time world champion on BBC Two

On paper, the weakest performer has been Si Jiahui. So Ronnie has got the person who arguably hasn't actually turned up yet. But you never know.

We've got the two juggernauts playing each other - Mark Williams and John Higgins. Everyone is licking their lips for that.

Then Chris Wakelin v Zhao Xintong - those two players have played astonishingly well in this tournament.

And Luca Brecel v Judd Trump, you never know what is going to happen with those two - what a line-up for the quarter-finals.

Marc: The quarter finals look splendid.

  5. Quarter-final drawpublished at 20:13 British Summer Time 28 April

    World Championship quarter-final draw

A reminder of the draw for the last eight then - some names you'd expect there but a couple of surprises too. And four really, really intriguing ties.

The four quarter-finals will, like the second-round matches, be played over three sessions and are the best of 25 frames.

They will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

    • Zhao Xintong v Chris Wakelin
    • Ronnie O'Sullivan v Si Jiahui
    • John Higgins v Mark Williams
    • Luca Brecel v Judd Trump
  6. Brecel v Trump 'should be cracking game'published at 20:12 British Summer Time 28 April

    Result: Brecel 13-4

Luca Brecel, speaking on BBC Two, about his forthcoming quarter-final clash with Judd Trump: "It could be (explosive) but it could also go scrappy and you never know how the balls go, but if we both play well it should be a cracking game."

  7. What's happening at the Crucible now?published at 20:08 British Summer Time 28 April

With the action finishing early, a version of 'Big Break' is being staged.

Hosted by Rob Walker, former world champions Ken Doherty and Dennis Taylor will be playing snooker with some fans picked out from the crowd.

  8. 'Temperament you can't teach'published at 20:06 British Summer Time 28 April

    Result: Brecel 13-4 Ding

    Steve Davis
Six-time world champion on BBC Two

Luca has a true cavalier attitude towards the game and that ability to be able to play and not worry about missing a ball - that's a temperament you can't teach.

It would be hard to believe lightning strikes twice [for Brecel to match his 2013 title triumph] - but he doesn't view it like that, he expects that standard.

  9. 'I felt quite good but not 100%'published at 20:02 British Summer Time 28 April

    Result: Brecel 13-4 Ding

The 2023 world champion Luca Brecel, speaking to BBC Two after his 13-4 win over Ding Junhui: "I felt quite good, not 100% at the top of my game yet but good enough to win."

On whether his explosive first session was the best he's played: "No, I think the session against (Mark) Selby in the final (2023) when I made three or four centuries in five frames, that was much better than this one and clean, but it was good."

  11. Quarter-final 'will be acid test'published at 19:56 British Summer Time 28 April

    Result: O'Sullivan 13-4 Pang

    Ronnie O'SullivanImage source, Getty Images

Ronnie O'Sullivan to BBC Two on quarter-final opponent Si Jiahui:

"This will be the acid test because he does score.

"The opponents I've played in the first two rounds have had enough chances to put me away but they haven't.

"I think this guy will - he beat me in Saudi Arabia this year, I was scrapping but his scoring power was just too much for me.

"Three-session game, best of 25, I'm going to have to see where I'm at."

  12. 'I'm a bit like Seve'published at 19:52 British Summer Time 28 April

    Result: O'Sullivan 13-4 Pang

More from seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan to BBC Two:

"People tell me you're not as bad as you think but it's really hard for me to judge - it's probably the worst I've ever felt.

"I don't know where my back arm is, where my left leg is, sometimes I can't even see where I'm hitting and I'll butcher a shot.

"I'm a bit like Seve Ballesteros - I can spray it all over the gaff but if I'm in and around the greens I'm able to make a few.

"That's what break-building is, you have to be a bit creative - but long game, iron game, I'm in the bushes, I'm in the rough. The safety and long game are pretty much non-existent.

"I've already completely overachieved as far as this tournament is concerned. I'll grind it out for the longer picture."

  13. 'They've let me off the hook'published at 19:45 British Summer Time 28 April

    Result: O'Sullivan 13-4 Pang

More from seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan to BBC Two:

"It was hard [to come back to playing after three months off] because I thought it could be a complete disaster - I was happy to make a game of it, win two or three frames maybe.

"If either of the opponents I've played had played well, I'd have got beaten but they've played poorly, let me off the hook and I've managed to score a few.

"It's very different to when I had a year off in 2012 because the minute I put the cue in my hand seven, eight weeks before the tournament in 2013 I didn't feel like I could miss.

"I've won this tournament many times before playing what I consider 'bad' so it can be done - but when you're in your late 30s, early 40s, it's probably much more achievable than when you're 50 and struggling to bend down to do your shoelaces up."

  14. Stats how to do itpublished at 19:40 British Summer Time 28 April

    Result: O'Sullivan 13-4 Pang

Ronnie O'Sullivan v Pang Junxu stats

Maybe that long pot success rate and safety success rate are the reasons why Ronnie isn't overly enthused with his performance?

    Still, he's into a record-extending 23rd World Championship quarter-final having won 13-4 - so it's not all bad, Ronnie!

  15. 'In the balls I was all right'published at 19:38 British Summer Time 28 April

    Result: O'Sullivan 13-4 Pang

Ronnie O'Sullivan speaking to BBC Two after reaching a 23rd World Championship quarter-final:

"I feel so unconfident it's horrible - even when I'm playing all right.

"In the balls I was all right tonight but there are so many different parts of the game you've got to get right. It's hell.

"It's not about winning, it's about going there and being confident enough to just do yourself justice. It's nice to win but you just want to be part of a good game.

"I've always felt better if I've played well in a game and lost than played terrible and won - I know I'm probably not normal so I've accepted that."

  16. 'Business as usual'published at 19:33 British Summer Time 28 April

    Result: O'Sullivan 13-4 Pang

    Steve Davis
Six-time world champion on BBC Two

His opponent didn't put it up to Ronnie and it was a really nice, comfortable second round for him.

Maybe that was something he needed to relax his way into competitive play again - not that he really needs help because it's business as usual.

When you 'do a job' on another player you feel the confidence start to grow.

  17. Brecel 'such a talent'published at 19:32 British Summer Time 28 April

    Result: Brecel 13-4 Ding

    Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC iPlayer

Great to see Luca Brecel playing like this. Such a talent.

There was a chance he was going to drop off the tour, such was his fall from grace.

    Breaking

    Result: Brecel 13-4 Ding

A break of 71 is enough to clinch victory for Luca Brecel.

The 2023 champion will meet 2019 winner Judd Trump in a mouthwatering quarter-final.

No century as Ronnie O'Sullivan misses the last green on 95.

The poor crowd only get to see one frame - could have at least given them a ton!

But they've witnessed genius in snooker form at least. A fantastic display from the seven-time champion who has simply blown Pang Junxu away, winning all of the final seven frames in this match.
