There's nobody better than Ronnie O'Sullivan for cue ball control in and around pink and black.

Already looking very gloomy for Pang Junxu - the 'Rocket' picking off balls at will and up to 47...

    Brecel 12-4 Ding

    OH MY!

Luca Brecel claims the early advantage as he needs just one frame to clinch his place in the last eight.

He goes 42 ahead and misses a pink but flukes it in the middle.

    It's looking grim for Ding...

Pang Junxu is MILES off with a long red. Might be his last shot.

Easy red to start for Ronnie O'Sullivan who has been very patient this evening and now has his rewards.

Some quotes from China's Si Jiahui, after his 13-10 win over Ben Woollaston.

"Yes it was tough, because neither of us played very well," said Ji. "There were almost no big breaks. It was exhausting, mainly mentally exhausting. I relied entirely on my willpower to win the match.

"It went 10–10, when we had a mid-session interval, I went to the practice room to hit a few balls, just to relax a bit and stop my arms from being too tight. Before that, I had been way too tense, and my potting accuracy and overall feeling were really bad. So I tried to loosen up and find some rhythm. In the last three frames, I gradually found some touch again, and luckily managed to close it out.

"It's because I wanted to win too badly. I put too much pressure on myself. That made my performance worse. My opponent was also playing in the last 16 at the Crucible for the first time, and he wasn’t playing very well either. So overall, both of us didn’t play to a high standard.

"Sometimes when I play against higher-ranked players, I perform particularly well and manage to win. But when facing lower-ranked players, it feels like the energy just cuts off sometimes. I know clearly that it’s a mentality problem. Over the past few years, I’ve unconsciously put more pressure on myself when facing lower-ranked opponents. This is something I must work on and change."

China's Si Jiahui moved into the quarter-finals thanks to a 13-10 win over England's Ben Woollaston, who had eliminated fourth seed Mark Selby in the first round.

Si reached the semi-finals two years ago, letting a 14-5 lead slip as he lost 17-15 to eventual winner Luca Brecel.

In the quarter-finals, Si will play either Ronnie O'Sullivan or Pang Junxu, with O'Sullivan holding a dominant 12-4 lead and only needing one more frame when that match resumes at 19:00 BST.

Woollaston, 44th in the world, felt he had missed a glorious opportunity after recovering from 9-7 behind to get it to 10-10, only to lose the last three frames.

He said: "I was 9-7 down and I didn't know how. It was my own fault because there were so many frames I could've won and I should've been 10-6 up.

"From 10-10 he played the best he had in the match. He was then brilliant and some of his long pots were out of this world. It's frustrating as tactically I was all over him the whole match, but I couldn't convert my chances."

Kevin Astley: Pang Junxu certainly enjoyed his entrance to The Crucible tonight.

The underdog raised both arms, almost in mock celebration, and was greeted with a hero's welcome...

    Brecel 12-4 Ding

No room for error here for Ding Junhui.

He's five points behind Luca Brecel but we're into an early safety exchange with reds scattered across the table.

  10. Postpublished at 19:14 British Summer Time 28 April

    O'Sullivan 12-4 Pang

Can Pang make this scoreline respectable, then?

He was in touch at 6-4, remember, before O'Sullivan's six-frame burst yesterday.

The Chinese player starts with a good long red but breaks down on 12.

  11. 'Not been put under any pressure'published at 19:12 British Summer Time 28 April

Ronnie's been good in this tournament but he's not been at his best.

But nobody's really scratched the surface, put him under any pressure.

He's not been tested but there have been good signs for Ronnie.

Sam: We could be in for one of the shortest sessions of snooker ever or we could be in for one of the greatest sessions of snooker ever - I think spectators with tickets for tonight’s matches will be hoping for the latter.

  14. Afternoon recap - Trump and Si throughpublished at 19:09 British Summer Time 28 April

World number one Judd Trump held off Shaun Murphy's fightback to win an epic last-16 tie and move into the quarter-finals of the World Championship.

Trump looked set for a routine victory when he led 12-6 but missed a red into the middle pocket and Murphy capitalised by reeling off four frames in a row.

However 2019 champion Trump held his nerve to take the 23rd frame for a 13-10 win and set up a match against either 2023 winner Luca Brecel or 2016 runner-up Ding Junhui in the quarter-final.

In the other match in the afternoon session, China's Si Jiahui moved into the quarter-finals thanks to a 13-10 win over England's Ben Woollaston, who had eliminated fourth seed Mark Selby in the first round.

In the quarter-finals, Si will play either Ronnie O'Sullivan or Pang Junxu, with O'Sullivan holding a dominant 12-4 lead.

  17. Brilliant Brecel on brink of last eightpublished at 19:04 British Summer Time 28 April

    Brecel 12-4 Ding (19:00 BST)

Luca Brecel was at his brilliant best on Saturday against Ding Junhui and the 2023 champion followed that up with another fine display on Sunday to move within one frame of the quarter-finals.

In fact, it took centuries in frames 15 and 16 from Ding to prevent Brecel winning with a session to spare.

Surely, though, that was just delaying the inevitable.

A mouth-watering last-eight tie with Judd Trump awaits if Brecel can complete the formalities this evening.

  18. O'Sullivan in chargepublished at 19:02 British Summer Time 28 April

    O'Sullivan 12-4 Pang (19:00 BST)

Ronnie O'Sullivan and Pang JunxuImage source, PA Media

Ronnie O'Sullivan is one frame away from reaching the World Championship quarter-finals on his return to snooker after a three-month absence.

Having trailed 6-2 after the first session, Pang Junxu won the first two frames they played on Sunday to reduce his deficit to two.

But then O'Sullivan went through the gears, rattling off six frames in a row to move to the brink of victory and a quarter-final against another Chinese star, Si Jiahui.

He'll want to get things polished off very quickly indeed and not waste too much energy with potentially three more big matches ahead this week.
