At 15-30, Tommy Paul had a chance of getting us back on serve, only for Alcaraz to soon after send down an ace of 129mph, which was so good it drew gasps from the Court One crowd.
Then Paul failed to convert a smash and Alcaraz kept the point alive and won it to move one game away from making it a set apiece.

Tommy Paul lost his focus and concentration there. When you're playing Carlos Alcaraz, you have to make sure you're there every single point with clarity.
There was a little bit of doubt and indecisiveness. When you're hitting the ball that hard, you're going to miss by a lot.
Alcaraz 5-7 5-3 Paul*
A thumping ace down the middle of the court at 129mph gives Carlos Alcaraz a chance to close out the game at 40-30. The Spaniard does so, but only after a dramatic rally at the net which tests the full range of vocal chords from the crowd on Court One.

Now this will be a huge test for Tommy Paul, who has been superb up to now.
He won the first set and was 2-0 up in the second but has only won one of five games since and now finds himself a break down and facing a real battle to not lose this second set.
As you can guess, no-one is going anywhere. Very, very good.

That’s a poor game from Tommy Paul. Too many unforced errors, really donated the break and that’s just the encouragement Alcaraz needed.

That's what champions do. Carlos Alcaraz, a set and a break down and in a bit of bother, instantly breaks back and responds with a fist pump in the direction of his team.
Alcaraz has already recovered from going a set behind in these championships, winning in five sets against another American, Frances Tiafoe, in round three after also losing the opening set 7-5.
Will history repeat itself here?
