A slap of the thigh in frustration from Carlos Alcaraz when a two-handed backhand effort, following yet another superb rally, hits the top of the net.

That was on break point and the reigning champion would have been serving for the set if he'd taken that point.

But not to be and we're still on serve with Alcaraz now serving to stay in the opening set. Both men are being an absolute credit to themselves and an hour has flown by.

Completely agree, Linda (16:39). High class.

Carlos Alcaraz earns a couple of break points points on Tommy Paul's serve but is unable to provide coup de grace on either occasion.

Paul then strikes a booming forehand to the corner of the court and Alcaraz can only strike the net. The American backs it up with a serve-and-volley which the Spaniard can only spoon high.

    Vital hold from Paul.

Andrew: Medvedev is clearly making an effort to keep the gap in between points as short as he can, in order to give Sinner as little time as possible to recover. Sinner has it all to do now.
