The last of the quarter-finals we saw today was the most one-sided as a brilliant performance from Jasmine Paolini saw her breeze past Emma Navarro in under an hour.

Paolini becomes the first woman in the Open Era to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals and will face Donna Vekic in the last four.

After being broken early in the first set, Paolini immediately hit back and dominated the rest of the match.

“It’s a dream to be here in this position to be in the semi-final. I was watching finals when I was a kid, on this court," she said.

"I have to say today I played a really good match, she’s a really tough opponent, I lost (to) her three times in the last year, so it was tough."

Carlos Alcaraz is also through to the semi-finals after coming from a set down to beat American Tommy Paul in four sets.

The defending champion was also a break down in the second set but came roaring back in a fast-paced, high-class match on Court One.

After winning the French Open last month, Alacraz is a step closer to his second Grand Slam of the year and will play Daniil Medvedev in the last four.

"If I'm struggling a little bit to find the solutions if the opponent is playing great tennis and I don't get him in trouble, I believe at the end that I'll be able to come back and be able to find solutions," the third seed said.

"Even here in the Grand Slams, the matches are longer. I have more to recover, to be back, so I believe in myself the whole time."

Daniil Medvedev ended his losing streak against Jannik Sinner in a five-set thriller to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals for a second consecutive year.

Italian top seed Sinner, who was hampered by illness, had won his most recent five encounters against Medvedev - including January's Australian Open final.

But Russian fifth seed Medvedev avenged that Melbourne result with a 6-7 (7-9) 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 2-6 6-3 win after exactly four hours on Centre Court.

"I knew if I wanted to beat Jannik it needs to be a tough match," said Medvedev, who is targeting a first appearance in the SW19 final.

"I'm really happy to win, really happy with my game and looking forward."

'She can't believe it!' - Vekic defeats Sun

Donna Vekic says she "did not want to play tennis" little over a month ago - but now she is celebrating the best Grand Slam run of her career.

Croatia's Vekic, 28, moved into the last four by ending New Zealand qualifier Lulu Sun's dream run with a 5-7 6-4 6-1 win.

Vekic has struggled with injuries and, speaking after her quarter-final win on Tuesday, revealed she threatened to stop playing before May's French Open.

"I didn't have any energy, any motivation to keep practising and keep pushing," said Vekic, who is ranked 37th in the world.

"I felt like the last couple months I'd given everything for tennis and I wasn't getting the results that I kind of expected. It was a very, very tough moment."

Jasmine Paolini, who has reached the Wimbledon semi-final with her straight sets win over Emma Navarro.

Hard to believe that until 10 days ago you had not won a match at Wimbledon and now through the semi-finals: “It’s unbelievable, it’s amazing to get the win in this special court. I’m so happy to be in the semi-final. I don’t know what to say in this moment.”

Incredible Italian tennis players, first Italian woman to make it to the semi-finals at Wimbledon – how special is that for you? “It’s a dream to be here in this position to be in the semi-final. I was watching finals when I was a kid, on this court.

"I have to say today I played a really good match, she’s a really tough opponent, I lost (to) her three times in the last year, so it was tough."

Next up is Donna Vekic – what are your thoughts? "Yeah, of course. In the semi-final you have to play tough opponents, and she’s playing amazing.

"I hope to enjoy the next match, to give 100 percent and I’m going to fight on every ball and I’m just so grateful to be here another time, in front of you guys."

  11. 'I believe in myself the whole time' - Alcarazpublished at 19:13 British Summer Time 9 July

    Alcaraz 5-7 6-4 6-2 6-2 Paul

Carlos Alcaraz on winning his quarter-final match against Tommy Paul: "He has been playing great tennis here on grass. He won Queens. I think he has been doing great stuff here in Wimbledon, beating great players, and of course today was a really difficult, difficult match for me.

"In the first set and the beginning of the second set, it was kind of like I'm playing on clay. Big rallies and over 10, 15 shots every point so I had to stay strong mentally.

"When I lost the first set it was kind of difficult for me a little but I knew it's a really long journey, really long match so I had to stay there and I'm really happy to find the solutions and find the good path."

On whether he doubts himself or believes he can deal with any situation in a match: "I believe that I can be back. If I'm struggling a little bit to find the solutions if the opponent is playing great tennis and I don't get him in trouble, I believe at the end that I'll be able to come back and be able to find solutions.

"Even here in the Grand Slams, the matches are longer. I have more to recover, to be back, so I believe in myself the whole time."

On the semi-final on Friday against Daniil Medvedev: "He's a really great player. It's the same semi-final as last year. Hopefully I'm going to get the same result.

"He just won against Jannik Sinner, the best player right now, so I know that he's in really good shape so I have to play my best, I have to believe in myself and try to keep going if I want to beat him so it's going to be a difficult one but I'm going to enjoy."

    Paolini 6-2 6-1 Navarro

Sensational from Jasmine Paolini. She has swept Emma Navarro aside in under an hour.

Paolini becomes the first Italian since 1926 to reach the semi-finals of the women's singles at Wimbledon - and does so in some style.

Navarro can be proud of her run to this stage but the American was no match for an inspired Paolini today.

It’s been like a dance, like a concert out there and Paolini is controlling the tempo. The Paolini forehand has been the big shot, she uses it to keep Navarro back behind the baseline.

She has out-hit Navarro over the course of this match.

Navarro doesn’t’ have any answers for it.

One set, two breaks and 0-40 down, it's a difficult place to be.

"Come on Emma," shouts one fan. Then another joins in. Then another, and another. Suddenly the whole of Centre Court is applauding for Emma Navarro.

It's a lovely touch. Navarro double faults the next point.

What a win for Carlos Alcaraz, who was a set and a break down and fights back to eliminate Tommy Paul in four sets.

The Court One crowd have been treated to a brilliant match for three hours and 11 minutes, but the reigning champion wins it to set up a semi-final with Daniil Medvedev, the man he defeated in the last four in 2023.

For Alcaraz this match was finished by 7pm, wrap up the media duties and post-match routine quickly and then get yourself in front of a screen to watch Spain v France in the Euro 2024 semi-final.

A perfect day so far for the Spaniard.

  20. Three break pointspublished at 19:01 British Summer Time 9 July

    *Paolini 6-2 4-1 Navarro

Emma Navarro is fighting hard but the ferocity of Jasmine Paolini's forehand is proving too much for her to handle at the moment.

And when that has worn Navarro down, Paolini is able to come into the net and calmly finish off the point.

    Three break points for Paolini.
