I've been so impressed with Jasmine Paolini. She reached the final of Roland Garros and backs it up straight away on a different surface.

She's traditionally been someone who hasn't liked a faster surface so to see her vary her game up, come forward a lot more, be more aggressive, it's just been so impressive.

Donna Vekic speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live about her quarter-final victory against Lulu Sun and making the semi-finals of a Grand Slam for a first time:

"It's been a lot of emotions the last couple of hours, starting with the match and then a lot of relief after the match but I'm definitely really happy."

On dealing with injuries in her career: "The injures are never easy. Sometimes when you're trying to come back, you're rushing and you want to play as soon as possible but sometimes the body is saying no.

"You just have to learn with time and age how to listen to your body and know when it's time to stop, to take a rest and when it's time to push."

Not just one, but two huge screams of "Vamos" from Carlos Alcaraz at the end of another thrilling game full of highlights. Two break points come and go for Paul, who also needed a change of racquet after a string looked to have snapped.

But Alcaraz, just about, maintains his break of serve advantage in this third set.

Next up on Centre Court, the last singles match of the day as Italian seventh seed Jasmine Paolini faces Emma Navarro of the United States.

The 28-year-old Paolini was 5-2 down in the deciding set against another American, Madison Keys, in the fourth round before a hamstring injury forced the devastated 12th seed to retire with the score at 5-5.

That means French Open runner-up Paolini is through to her second Grand Slam quarter-final in a matters of weeks having never made it beyond the second round of a major until this year.

She faces a tough task to make another semi-final, though, with Navarro high on confidence after ousting compatriot and second seed Coco Gauff in straight sets in round four.

The 19th seed, 23, is playing in her first Grand Slam quarter-final and has beaten Paolini in all three of the pairs previous meetings. Although, they were all on hard courts rather than grass.

    Michael Emons
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Great spirit shown there from Tommy Paul who had to dig deep to save three break points at 0-40 down, which he did thanks to a good first serve out wide, then Alcaraz looping a forehand wide and then returning long.

A perfect lob from the Spaniard with Paul at the net brought about a fourth chance for a break only for Alcaraz to send a low, crouching forehand just long.

Two breaks down in this set would have been incredibly tough to recover from. As it is, it's just the one break Paul has to claim back.

Paul is playing a huge part in this hugely enjoyable match, which now passes the two-and-a-quarter hour mark.

Alcaraz's Spain play in the semi-finals of Euro 2024 in two hours' time. He'd take missing the start of that match if it meant he got the win here.

We're nowhere near the final whistle on Court One.

  16. 'This is a record for me at Wimbledon'published at 17:59 British Summer Time 9 July

    Sinner 7-6 (9-7) 4-6 6-7 (4-7) 6-2 3-6 Medvedev

Let's hear from Daniil Medvedev who is in the semi-final for the second year in a row:

    Describing the roller-coaster of emotions:

"I knew if I wanted to beat Jannik it needs to be a tough match. He’s not any more a guy you can beat easy. I felt at one moment he was not feeling that good and this can get away but he started feeling better so I’m happy I managed to still stay high level. Great points, great match and I’m happy to win and really happy with my game."

At one stage Jannik was not feeling well, how did Medvedev deal with that?

"It’s actually very tough, One moment I could feel that he doesn’t move that well so it’s always tricky because you want to play more points to make him suffer a little bit more. In a good way."

That prompted some chuckles from the crowd on Centre Court.

"But you know at one point he will go ‘OK I can’t run anymore’ and go full power and that’s what he did.

    On reaching the semi-finals:

"It’s my first time winning two matches in Centre Court at Wimbledon. Usually I would either win or zero so this is a record already. I saw the first set so I saw this match on the score board after 50 minutes of play – I thought ‘what are they doing there?’

"I am going to watch a little bit now, they play good matches."
