An ace out wide seals the third set in favour of Daniil Medvedev.

Jannik Sinner got himself back into it and seemed to be back close to his best but Medvedev saved two set points before coming through in the tie-break.

I think this is where Tommy Paul’s baseline strikes are underrated. You would have thought if they are getting in baseline exchanges, Alcaraz would be coming out on top.

Some fans on Court One get a reprimand from the chair umpire, who says "do not call out during the middle of the point" after some excited screams when the ball instantly slowed down when kissing the baseline.

But you can see why the fans are getting so excited in another thrilling game that seems to have a bit of anything, including delightful winners, brilliant shots, brute force, a Paul slip (he's OK), the American not taking three break points and a 'tweener' from Alcaraz who somehow from beyond his own baseline manages to loft it over Paul's head, but just too long.

We expected this to be good. It has been way beyond that so far. Forty minutes and we're only halfway through the first set. You can't take your eyes off it.

A scream of "Vamos" from Alcaraz as he finally gets the hold in one of the games of the tournament.

  5. Mini-break for Medvedevpublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 9 July

    *Sinner 7-6 (9-7) 4-6 6-6 (2-5) Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev gets the first mini-break of this tie-break.

This set seemed to be going his way before Jannik Sinner's late recovery but now the fifth seed has the edge again.

    Quite brilliant tennis.

A rally which seemingly had everything - slices, powerful forehands and backhand drop shots - ends with Tommy Paul holding after Carlos Alcaraz hits a volley into the net from a matter of feet away.

    New balls.

Jannik Sinner definitely looks better than he did. He looked so pasty and had no energy about him at all.

He's certainly playing like he's a lot better. There's an energy about him and he's moving around the court now.
