  1. 'Sinner is a perfectionist'published at 13:42 British Summer Time 1 July

    Sinner 4-3 Nardi*

    John Lloyd
Former GB Davis Cup captain on BBC TV

Jannik Sinner is a perfectionist, he'll work on every aspect of his game.

He is that sort of player who will just keep working on it to get better and better.

  2. Eala holdspublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Krejcikova 0-1 Eala

A solid service hold for Wimbledon debutant Alexandra Eala.

A winner down the line on game point will do her confidence no harm at all.

  3. Sinner holdspublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 1 July

    Sinner 4-3 Nardi*

    Comfortable hold for Jannik Sinner.

The world number one hit a couple of lesser-spotted slices in that game, catching Luca Nardi by surprise.

Many think it's the weakest shot in Sinner's catalogue but it didn't look so there.

  4. Nardi holdspublished at 13:39 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Sinner 3-3 Nardi

Some brilliant passages of play in that game.

Luca Nardi hit a stunning drop shot, which Jannik Sinner nearly jarred his knee sliding to retrieve to no avail.

The former world number 67 then found the chalk of the baseline with a brilliant forehand.

  5. 'I am predicting an upset today'published at 13:38 British Summer Time 1 July

    Krejcikova v Eala

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think a lot of people will be asking if we could see the defending champion out in round one and I think that is a distinct possibility against someone rising up very fast.

Eala is a tricky, beautiful player who has won the hearts of a lot of tennis fans after what happened in Eastbourne - she is a passionate player.

I am going to predict an upset today.

Left-hander Eala will serve first on Centre.

    Krejcikova v Eala

    Jess Anderson
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Well, this is an absolutely tantalising match up between the defending champ and the young talent.

Barbora Krejcikova arrives off the back of an injury-ravaged year. She pulled out of Eastbourne last week with a thigh injury but has actually only played six competitive matches in 2025 after suffering with her back too.

Meanwhile, Alexandra Eala is on the up, a run to the final at Eastbourne last week puts her in a good place to cause a huge upset here.

It's actually a very humid day today so while the sun might not be blazing down like yesterday, it's still very hot and stuffy on Centre Court.

    Krejcikova v Eala

Barbora Krejcikova has never lost in the first round in any of her previous four main-draw appearances at Wimbledon.

Seeded 17th this year, she will hope to avoid the same fate as her compatriot Marketa Vondrousova, whose title defence ended at the first hurdle in 2024.

That is one of only two occasions that the defending women's champion has gone out in the Wimbledon first round in the Open era. The other was Steffi Graf in 1994.

    Sinner 3-2 Nardi*

Luca Nardi can't make the most of his first opening on Jannik Sinner's serve.

After going 0-30 up, Nardi takes Sinner to deuce but the world number one's serve proves too much.

  9. 'Sinner's serve is an incredible weapon'published at 13:33 British Summer Time 1 July

    Sinner 3-2 Nardi*

    John Lloyd
Former GB Davis Cup captain on BBC TV

Jannik Sinner has that instinct of knowing when his opponent is stretched.

I think his serve has improved an incredible amount in the last two years and now it is an incredible weapon.

The drop shots and when to come in is what he can improve which is a scary thought.

There are always things to work on but with Sinner it is more in the middle area of the court.

    Krejcikova v Eala

Barbora Krejcikova has just walked onto Centre Court and will start the defence of her Wimbledon title shortly.

Krejcikova, who beat Jasmine Paolini in last year's final, enters the tournament with injury concerns. The Czech player withdrew from Eastbourne last week because of a thigh problem, having missed a big chunk of the past year with a back injury.

Her first-round opponent is Alexandra Eala of the Philippines, who is ranked 56th in the world.

The 20-year-old is making her Wimbledon debut, but has form on the grass - she reached the final at Eastbourne last week, losing to Maya Joint.

It's a far from straightforward opener for the 2024 champion.

  11. Nardi levelspublished at 13:29 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Sinner 2-2 Nardi

    That's better from Luca Nardi.

The Italian's accurate serving helps him to keep the rallies shorter, not allowing Sinner to take control.

He holds to 30 to level up the first set two games apiece.

Luca Nardi has embraced the situation from the beginning, he doesn't look nervous at all.

I’m in place to watch the all-Italian match up between world number one Jannik Sinner and 21-year-old compatriot Luca Nardi on Court One.

Sinner is here to banish his Grand Slam demons after coming out on the wrong end of one of the all-time great French Open finals last month.

So I’m not sure how much he’ll appreciate the Roland Garros brolly that’s been put up in one of the front rows…

Comprehensive stuff from Jannik Sinner, who holds to take the lead.

The Italian's found an early groove on serve, losing just two points from his first two service games.

Alex de Minaur looks to already have one foot in the second round after opening up a two set advantage over Spain's Roberto Carballes Baena on court 18.

The Australian 11th seed is currently serving for the third set at 5-4 up, having breezed through the first two sets in good time.

Lorenzo Musetti also stepped onto court a short while ago. The Italian seventh seed has a mountain to climb on court two though, having bombed the opening set 6-2 against Georgia's Nikoloz Basilashvili.

Reigning Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen is in action against Katerina Siniakova over on court three. The Chinese player has a career-best Round of 32 showing at Wimbledon, but she will be hoping to go far in SW19 as she searches for her first title of the season.

  16. 'Get that first strike'published at 13:22 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Sinner 1-1 Nardi

    John Lloyd
Former GB Davis Cup captain on BBC TV

I think they will tell Luca Nardi to try and get that first strike because once you go behind against Jannik Sinner, you are just running.

He doesn't want to be giving too many second serves to Jannik Sinner.

  17. Nardi holds...justpublished at 13:21 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Sinner 1-1 Nardi

It's a crucial early hold from Nardi but my word did he have to work for that.

After piling on the pressure, Jannik Sinner fails to take two early break points to allow Nardi to keep hold.

  18. 'Hopefully Nardi will embrace the occasion'published at 13:21 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Sinner 1-1 Nardi

    John Lloyd
Former GB Davis Cup captain on BBC TV

Luca Nardi is a very tidy player, it will be interesting to see his attitude.

Hopefully he will embrace the occasion. I hope he will, there's no reason not to.

It can be a daunting prospect when you are playing against the number one player in the world.

You would assume they have practiced together.
