    Monday 4-6 4-5 Paul*

What a response that is from Johannus Monday.

The Brit stays in touch in this second set, giving Tommy Paul a taste of his own medicine with a couple of serve & volleys that seemed to take the American by surprise.

Paul, though, will now serve for the second set.

    Cocciaretto 6-2 6-3 Pegula

    Jess Anderson
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

The body language from Pegula tells you all you need to know.

She was bent over her racquet shaking her head after that game for 5-3.

Then a double fault and two long forehand’s put her in serious trouble.

She can only shove into the net at 0-40 and that seals the match for Elisabetta Cocciaretto.

Pegula does have strapping on her right knee and was perhaps struggling with that. Tough day at the office.

  5. Paul holdspublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Monday 4-6 3-5 Paul

That's world class from Tommy Paul.

On consecutive points, he shows soft hands at the net with his volley to leave Johannus Monday deflated.

It's a simple hold in the end, with Monday serving to stay in the set.

    Cocciaretto 6-2 6-3 Pegula

Elisabetta Cocciaretto holds on her service game and then Jessica Pegula must serve to stay in the set.

    She fails to do so.

The Italian has triple match point and needs just one go at it as Pegula hits into the net once again.

World number three Pegula is out in the opening round.

A superb performance from Cocciaretto, just her second win against a top 10 player.

A big cry of almost pain as Pegula fires long. She’s not happy at all out here, shaking her head and muttering up to her coaches.

    *Monday 4-6 2-4 Paul

Barring a double-fault, that's some going from Tommy Paul.

He had full control of each point, moving Johannus Monday where he wants.

He holds with another ace - his sixth of the match.

    *Tauson 2-6 3-2 Watson

    Gary Rose

    .

The stands here at Court 12 have progressively filled as this match has gone on, and the rythmic fanning of fans opposite me is quite soothing.

Heather Watson certainly needs to stay clam at this moment with Clara Tauson having come out stronger in this second set and is control of matters.

Watson fended off a second break there but she needs to find a way to break her opponent's serve again soon.

  15. Watson holdspublished at 12:07 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Tauson 2-6 3-2 Watson

Clara Tauson is asking questions of Heather Watson now.

The Dane, who has never gone beyond the first round at Wimbledon, is looking menacing with her work from the baseline.

A powerful forehand gets her to deuce.

But Watson kicks on to get the hold.

    *Cocciaretto 6-2 4-3 Pegula

    Jess Anderson
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Jessica Pegula was not happy after that break of serve.

It’s all going wrong for the American.

Something about this court for the seeds? It was also the site of Daniil Medvedev’s first-round exit yesterday.

Elisabetta Cocciaretto is responding well to whatever Jessica Pegula is trying to throw at her.

    Trouble brewing for the American.

  18. Monday bounces backpublished at 12:03 British Summer Time 1 July

    Monday 4-6 2-3 Paul*

So much more aggressive from Johannus Monday.

He has to do something to upset Tommy Paul's rhythm and he did it there, twice coming to the net to force the issue.

  19. Boulter out supportingpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 1 July

De Minaur 6-2 1-0 Carballes Baena*

    Harry Poole
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Nope, I was wrong. Katie Boulter is here to watch Alex de Minaur and was sat directly behind me while I wrote that previous entry.

In my defence, she is keeping herself - very sensibly - shaded by a big Wimbledon brolly.

The British number two watches the men’s 11th seed wrap up the first set in impressive fashion by winning five straight games.

  20. Tauson holdspublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 1 July

    Tauson 2-6 3-1 Watson*

Clara Tauson is showing more resilience in this second set.

The 23rd seed trails 30-15 on serve but fights back to lead 40-30 with an ace and then wraps up the hold.

That's the kind of game that slipped away from here in the opening set.
