You sense that last game is still running through Johannus Monday's head.

Tommy Paul hits a sublime drop shot to go 30-15, before two lax returns from Monday give the 13th seed a simple hold.

This is one-way traffic right now.

I’m down at court two where an upset is brewing.

American third seed Jessica Pegula is a set down against Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto.

Pegula has been ranked inside the top 10 in the world for quite some time now but her Grand Slam record is not the best.

She made it to last year’s US Open final but before that had never gone past the quarter-final stage at a major.

Can she turn things around here to give herself a fighting chance?

This is already feels like a big game for Heather Watson early in the second set.

Lovely net play from the Briton as she volleys a winner.

    Watson gets the hold.

    Tauson 2-6 2-0 Watson*

Clara Tauson is showing a lot more fight now.

The Dane gets to deuce and then advantage before sealing the hold with a passing shot after racing to meet Heather Watson's drop shot.

    Break consolidated.

  7. Break point Watsonpublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Tauson 2-6 1-0 Watson

The last time Heather Watson was broken - game three of the opening set - she went on five successive games. Another run like that would be welcomed here.

Watson comes up with a lovely passing shot to lead 40-30 and set up the chance to break back.

  10. Monday holdspublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 1 July

    Monday 4-6 1-0 Paul*

Johannus Monday had to work for that.

A couple of slack returns give Tommy Paul simple forehand winners as the American takes the game to a second deuce.

But the Brit shows his resolve to take the opening game of the second set.

  11. Tauson breaks early in second setpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Tauson 2-6 1-0 Watson

That little break off court seems to have paid off for Clara Tauson as she prevents Heather Watson from winning a sixth successive game and picks up an early break.

A break to 15 will do Tauson's confidence a huge amount of good.

Heather Watson was doing some shadow serving for a little while there to practice her swing as Clara Tauson left the court for a bit but the Dane is back now and we're under way in the second set.

Will Tauson regroup and battle back? Or will Watson maintain her momentum from the first set?

  14. Who is British wildcard Johannus Monday?published at 11:46 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Monday 4-6 0-0 Paul

Great Britain's Johannus Monday has just lost the opening set against 13th seed Tommy Paul on court three right now.

Monday is new name on the scene even for the most die-hard of tennis fans, so we've had a look at who he is.

The Hull-born player - who has had a breakthrough season on the Challenger Tour - is making his Grand Slam main draw singles debut at SW19 after being awarded a wildcard earlier this month.

After spending four years playing college tennis at the University of Tennessee, Monday has reached six finals on the tour in his first year as a professional - winning all six of them - and he's looking to see how he can cope with the step up.

The 23-year-old is no stranger to being a Wimbledon wildcard though, after reaching the men's doubles second round in 2023 alongside fellow Brit Jacob Fearnley.

  15. Pegula holdspublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Cocciaretto 6-2 0-1 Pegula

Jessica Pegula holds to love in her opening service game of the second set as she looks to get back into the match.

Elisabetta Cocciaretto's forehand goes long as Pegula makes an ideal start.

  16. Monday frustrationspublished at 11:44 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Monday 4-6 0-0 Paul

Monday did very little wrong in that first set.

But it was his early serving that cost him, with the Brit finishing the set with a first-serve percentage of 61%.

He only gave Tommy Paul one break point opportunity but the American made no mistake.

  17. Game and first set - Paulpublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Monday 4-6 Paul

Tommy Paul makes no mistake on three set points, serving out to take the first set.

Johannus Monday is frustrated with his returns there, as he was unable to put any pressure on the American.

  18. Superb from Watsonpublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 1 July

    Tauson 2-6 0-0 Watson*

    Gary Rose
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Clara Tauson is looking mightily miffed at the moment. A set that started so well for her has belonged to Heather Watson since she broke for the first time in the fourth game.

Watson was apologetic to her opponent when a return clipped the net and the awkward bounce decieved Tauson, but bad luck was not the story of that first set - it was Watson's brilliant response to being broken early.

  19. Game and first set - Cocciarettopublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 1 July

    Cocciaretto 6-2 0-0 Pegula*

Elisabetta Cocciaretto takes the opening set against third seed Jessica Pegula.

Her game is so crisp and sharp with Pegula looking lost as to how she can overcome her opponent as she hits into the net.

Just 25 minutes required for the opener.

    De Minaur 4-2 Carballes Baena*

    Harry Poole
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

It’s already super hot out here after the opening half an hour of play on day two.

The court 18 spectators are wafting fans in unison in the main stand as Australia’s Alex de Minaur takes on Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena.

I’ve not managed to spot British number two Katie Boulter, De Minaur’s fiancé, in any of the seats so far. After her excellent opening win over Paula Badosa yesterday, she’s probably getting some well-earned rest before going again in round two tomorrow.

Still, it’s so far, so good for the 11th seed, who has made the breakthrough in set one.
