The first examination of Jannik Sinner's elbow - well, by Ben Shelton - is how it holds up to returning 130mph-plus serves.

The second is his own serve.

Banging down first serves in the 120mphs - including a couple of service winners - is an encouraging sign.

    Sinner 2-2 Shelton*

Jannik Sinner's elbow survives another test, this time a back-pedalling smash into the corner for 15-0.

He targeted Ben Shelton's backhand, both in rallies and when serving into the deuce court, a couple of times during another comfortable hold.

That was two very good tie-breaks, Belinda Bencic is an experienced player and she just performed better under pressure in the tie-breakers.

The first set tie-break was full of twists and it looks like this one is going to be the same.

Mirra Andreeva pulls back a mini-break but is still up against it.

Belinda Bencic follows with a hold to maintain control.

It's been an awesome ride with Ben Shelton during this first week.

He is such a crowd entertainer, he loves getting the crowd involved, he loves feeding off them which is a nice thing to happen.

I think the British crowd have fallen in love with him here.

Once inside Court One, the first thing your eyes are drawn to is Jannik Sinner’s right arm.

He’s wearing the same protective sleeve - or at least same type - that he was wearing in practice this morning.

It’s white, of course, to meet the sartorial requirements of the All England Club.

That means it almost looks like a cast at first glance.

    Sinner 1-1 Shelton*

No obvious issues with his serve either. Jannik Sinner, playing in his seventh consecutive Grand Slam quarter-final, holds to love.

Belinda Bencic is in trouble here, it might be a hip flexor. It looks like a stomach muscle that you have to engage so rapidly when you're sprinting and she sprinted across to that one and really pulled up. She limped towards the ball kid.

Some strong net play from Mirra Andreeva wipes off that mini-break at the first time of asking.

Belinda Bencic looks like she is hobbling a little but the Swiss gets the hold.

The problem with sticking Jannik Sinner on Court One - especially against a showman like Ben Shelton - is everyone wants to see it.

There is a decent queue at the entrance for competitors’ guests and media to get in.

The number of Italian journalists on the tennis tour is pretty hefty these days due to the success of Sinner, Jasmine Paolini and the rest.

Even with Sinner and Flavio Cobolli being split across the two showcourts, there is still a scramble for seats.

  19. Shelton holdspublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 9 July

    *Sinner 0-1 Shelton

Despite all the concerns about his elbow, Jannik Sinner is having no trouble with his groundstrokes early on, treating Ben Shelton to a couple of hefty returns.

Sinner takes a 30-15 lead but Shelton's big serve helps him hold to 30.

  20. Tie-breakpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 9 July

    Andreeva 6-7 (3-7) 6-6 (0-1) Bencic*

Another tense rally and it's Mirra Andreeva who is drawn into an unforced error.

The Russian puts into the tramlines and is down a mini-break. Not the ideal start.
