This feels like the calm before the storm. Like, the end of this set will be epic, no doubt, but right now we're racing through the slightly duller opening bits.

Carlos Alcaraz hits a lovely forehand crosscourt winner, but it's his only slice of joy as Frances Tiafoe holds to 15.

The lovely steward next to me just informed me Frances Tiafoe is leading Carlos Alcaraz.

“If he’s going to go for this then he’s going to have to go five sets. Interesting,” she says with a shocked look.

Murray definitely deserves a statue/named court/feature (perhaps Murray Mount can become the official name?) He has been THE icon of British sport, and in any other era we'd be taking numbers akin to the Greatest of All Time numbers

    Alcaraz 5-7 6-2 4-6 2-1 Tiafoe*

The door opens ever so slightly once more as Carlos Alcaraz slips to 0-30.

But the defending champion takes two big puffs of his chest before firing over a powerful, unreturnable serve.

He does that three more times to get out of trouble and holds to 30.

    Mark Woodforde

I think we are seeing Tiafoe playing at this level because this match is being played on Centre Court and without the elements. If this match was on court three, would we see Tiafoe playing at this inspired level?

Frances Tiafoe holds to 15. Neither player has given an inch so far in the fourth.

Grigor Dimitrov looks to be in fine form on Court One.

His ability to slide on the grass gives him an extra edge when reaching for the ball.

Some unbelievable balance on show as he gets the break and then goes on to hold.

R.e. Murray only won 3 slams v Fred Perry’s 8 But Murray won those 3 slams in the same era as Djokovic, nadal and federer. Still merit/statue worthy then…

Just the response Carlos Alcaraz needed as the Spaniard starts off the fourth set with a love-hold.

Alcaraz has a brilliant record when matches go to five sets, winning seven and losing one of his past eight marathon encounters.

Finally in position on Court One.

Great crowd in here and the roof being closed means the atmosphere is even better.

The ball makes a real booming sound when it thumps off the racquets. Lovely stuff.

    Quality tennis from Frances Tiafoe.

He wants to keep that intensity, focus and momentum.

Carlos Alcaraz has an uphill battle.

Very different emotions in the player's box.

Tiafoe's camp rising to applaud their man which there were definitely some concerned faces in Alcaraz's camp.

Frances Tiafoe is still pumping his fist as he sits down at the change of ends.

Just joining us? Well I can tell you that the American has been phenomenal so far. Carlos Alcaraz didn't have a sniff at a break point in the third.

There's whistles and cheers aplenty as Frances Tiafoe takes the third.

He loves the noise. The American puts a hand to his ear and waves for more.

I get the feeling he's very much enjoying this outing on Centre Court.

  16. Game and third set - Tiafoepublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 5 July

    *Alcaraz 5-7 6-2 4-6 Tiafoe

Frances Tiafoe is asking for more noise from the Centre Court crowd - and why not?! He's a set away from knocking out the defending champion!

Carlos Alcaraz did get it to 30-30 but then missed a backhand under no pressure.

It went to deuce but Alcaraz missed down the line to hand Tiafoe the game and the set. He will have to go the distance if he is to continue his title defence.

Carlos Alcaraz's dip is mental. His concentration hasn't been as intense and focused as usual.

On grass, everything is highlighted. There are fine margins.

Small chances have to be taken advantage of.

Murray deserves a statue. Fred Perry won eight in a different era with far fewer players than there were today. To win 3 slams, world no. 1 with the pressure of 70+ years from whole country is statue worthy!

    Alcaraz 5-7 6-2 4-5 Tiafoe*

    Marion Bartoli

Tiafoe is forcing Alcaraz to go for options that are very risky. On that occasion he made it but that’s what you get when you play a good returner, you are forced to take riskier shots.
