Swiatek enters Wimbledon as the world number one but has landed a tricky draw and many will put others ahead of her when assessing the title favourites.

She enjoyed a sensational clay-court season, winning back-to-back WTA 1,000 titles in Madrid and Rome before claiming her third straight French Open.

Despite being a former junior champion at Wimbledon, it remains the only major where she has not gone beyond the quarter-finals and she has never won a grass-court title on the WTA Tour.

    Close but not close enough…

It didn’t matter in the end as Paul Jubb battled hard to hold serve and pile the pressure back on Thiago Seyboth Wild.

“Come on, Paul” shout the hopeful spectators.

One to update you on from earlier. Britain's Jan Choinski is out after succumbing to Luciano Darderi.

Choinski made the second round last year but sadly this year.

It looked like he might just get over the line being a set up, but the fifth set proved too much and another Brit has fallen.

  5. Postpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 2 July

    *Kopriva 1-6 2-6 2-4 Djokovic

A hold to 15 takes Djokovic two games away from round two. There looks to be no way back for the Czech qualifier now.

  6. Maria holds to lovepublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 2 July

    *Boulter 4-5 Maria

Katie Boulter has made 15 unforced errors in the opening eight games of this match. For context, Tatjana Maria has made just one, but they are level and that's all that matters for now.

Cheers as Boulter lobs Tatjana Maria and the crowd is certain the German won't be able to return. But she does, hooking it over her shoulder and Boulter can't return.

Maria is quickly back in front as she holds to love.

World men's number nine Alex de Minaur - Katie Boulter's partner - has just joined her team in the stands.

The Australian, who has changed from his Wimbledon whites into a blue hoodie, made it into the second round earlier today with a straight-set win over compatriot James Duckworth.

  8. 'Bit more aggressive from Kopriva'published at 16:58 British Summer Time 2 July

    Kopriva 1-6 2-6 2-3 Djokovic*

    Marion Bartoli
Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

Kopriva has been a bit more aggressive with his game, he has tried to come to the net, he's trying to inject more pace into his game to put Djokovic more off-balance from the back of the court.

  9. Not looking good for Jubbpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 2 July

    *Jubb 6-1 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 4-6 1-3 Seyboth Wild

It's not looking good for the Brit here.

He just can't seem to do anything about the Seyboth Wild serve and he needs to if he wants to stay in this.

  10. 'Boulter's serving has been a struggle'published at 16:57 British Summer Time 2 July

    Boulter 4-4 Maria*

    Anne Keothavong
Former British number one on BBC TV

For the most part Katie Boulter has been building the point well. It’s just the execution is a bit off.

The rhythm on her serve has been a bit of a struggle.

  11. Boulter holdspublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 2 July

    Boulter 4-4 Maria*

Back to deuce and this time Katie Boulter makes no mistake at the net with a volley that leaves Tatjana Maria with no chances as she races forward from behind the baseline - advantage Boulter.

And Boulter holds with another forehand down the line. That looks to be her best shot so far today.

What a comeback this has been from the Brit, who trailed 3-0.

  12. Djokovic breaks first in set threepublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 2 July

    Kopriva 1-6 2-3 2-3 Djokovic*

Novak Djokovic is on the final bend now and looks set to put his foot down. He gets the break he was after in the fifth game of the third set and is now just three holds of serve away from moving into round two.

  13. Break point for Mariapublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 2 July

    Boulter 3-4 Maria*

After securing that break of serve, Katie Boulter MUST hold here to really make a fist of this first set, having looked out of it after losing the opening three games.

Tatjana Maria remains a thorn in Boutler's side, though, and has chance to break back - she can't take it and we go to deuce.

Another chance at a break point for Maria as Boulter meets a drop shot at the net but can't loft it back over.

Boulter saves again with a fine forehand down the line. That was exquisite.

Korda, the 20th seed, out to lucky loserpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 2 July

    Korda 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (6-8) 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 Mpetshi Perricard

    A star of the future?

Twentieth seed and 2023 Australian Open quarter-finalist Sebastian Korda has been beaten in the first round after losing to lucky loser Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

The 20-year-old Frenchman is making his Wimbledon debut and is a gigantic six foot eight inches (2.03 metres).

He'll play Japanese world number 90 Yoshihito Nishioka next.

    He's certainly one to watch.

Fourth seed Alexander Zverev: "First rounds are never easy but I’m happy with the way I started the tournament. I want to compete, I want to do well here at Wimbledon, the most historic tennis tournament that we have.

"I’ve struggled over the years on these beautiful courts, unfortunately, but I feel different this year, somehow much more into it and more alive on these courts. Hopefully I can show that in the next few matches.

"For some reason, very early in my career I decided that I hate grass courts, then for some reasons this year, I decided that I love them. That is the biggest change.

"I also feel this is the most open Wimbledon in 20-plus years. We had great champions like [Roger] Federer, [Rafael] Nadal, [Novak] Djokovic, [Andy] Murray and it was always between them.

"It is much more open this year, if somebody has two great weeks then they can do great things. I hope, for once, it is going to be me."

  19. Boulter breakspublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 2 July

    *Boulter 3-4 Maria

Katie Boulter desperately needs a break here to get a serious foothold in the set and she levels at 15-15 before moving into a 30-15 lead.

She gets a bit of luck - and she has needed some of that - to lead 40-15 with her shot down the line clipping the net cord and beyond Tatjana Maria.

Two break points for Boutler and she takes the first!

  20. Huge upset on day twopublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 2 July

    Bouzas Maneiro 6-4 6-2 Vondrousova

A reminder of the day's big shock...

Defending Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova joined Steffi Graf in the history books after she lost in straight sets to Jessica Bouzas Maneiro to suffer a shock first-round exit.

Vondrousova was a surprise winner at the All England Club last year but struggled physically as she tasted 6-4 6-2 defeat inside 67 minutes.

It made Vondrousova only the second defending women's Wimbledon champion to lose in the first round after Graf did in 1994 to Lori McNeil.
