    Carballes Baena 2-6 4-6 2-6 Zverev

    Arvind Parmar
Former British tennis player on BBC TV

I think that performance would be very satisfactory in Alexander Zverev’s mind.

A nice start to his campaign with his huge serving, percentages off the charts as usual.

  4. Choinski struggling in fifth setpublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 2 July

    *Darderi 7-5 4-6 2-6 7-5 4-2 Choinski

Jan Choinski is a break down and it's not looking good.

It's now a last throw of the dice for the Briton who leads by two sets to one.

  5. Boulter holdspublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 2 July

    Boulter 2-4 Maria*

Tatjana Maria races to the net after returning Katie Boulter's serve but the Brit is wise to it and slots a backhand down the line. 30-0.

Boulter gets to 40-0 and is on the verge of seeing out the game but errors creep in once again - 40-15, 40-30 and a volley into the net takes it to deuce.

Tatjana Maria is so deep behind the baseline after a lengthy rally and can't keep her forehand in - advantage Boutler and the Brit goes on to see out the game.

That was crucial to stay in this set.

We’re going the distance on court 14 as Paul Jubb has his two-set lead clawed back by Thiago Seyboth Wild.

You’ve got to say the momentum is with the Brazilian but the crowd will try to pull the Brit through.

  7. game, set and match

Game, set and match - Zverevpublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 2 July

    Carballes Baena 2-6 4-6 2-6 Zverev

Alexander Zverev books his place in round two after an impressive showing.

He bossed this match pretty much from the off and, for the most part, Roberto Carballes Baena couldn't get near him.

The Spaniard did come within a couple of blades of grass of breaking here with a firm forehand down the line.

Once that was shown to be out, though, Zverev made sure his opponent didn't get another chance and quickly closed it out.

Maria is a player who slices off both wings – not something you usually see on the tour.

  10. Maria holdspublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 2 July

    *Boulter 1-4 Maria

It's just not quite clicking for Katie Boulter. There have been several occasions where she just hasn't struck the ball cleanly and we see it again as she falls 40-15 behind.

On the other hand, Tatjana Maria is enjoying herself, especially on serve where she shows a great variety.

Another game goes the way of the German.

A huge roar from Katie Boulter, and an even bigger cheer from the crowd as she gets on the board.

When she was at Eastbourne last week, she was smiling in between points and looking relaxed, even in her quarter-final defeat.

But now the British number one looks a bit tense.

    Grand Slam pressure, perhaps?

Ooooh that’s a tough one to take. Thiago Seyboth Wild really upped the pace on his groundstrokes and Paul Jubb couldn’t respond when trying to hold serve.

There’s a plenty of support for the Brazilian on court 14 with cries of “vamos” getting louder.

  13. Djokovic could face Brit Jacob Fearnleypublished at 16:36 British Summer Time 2 July

    *Fearnley 7-5 1-2 Moro Canas

A first British male winner in this first round could also come from Jacob Fearnley, who has a huge incentive with Novak Djokovic potentially a second-round opponent.

The Brit is currently a set up.

  14. Zverev will serve for the matchpublished at 16:36 British Summer Time 2 July

    Carballes Baena 2-6 4-6 2-5 Zverev*

Alexander Zverev is a game away from the second round after another break of serve.

He's brings it up with a brilliantly dismissive forehand that Roberto Carballes Baena can only wave a racquet at as the ball flies by.

Katie Boulter has lost 10 points in a row but there's a huge cheer and round of applause as she halts that losing streak to move 15-0 up.

It was a shaky start but Boulter seems to be finding her feet and it's swiftly 40-0.

Ah, a double fault suggests Boulter hasn't fully found her rhythm just yet. 40-15.

But Boutler finally gets on the board as Tatjana Maria is unable to return from the baseline.

  16. Seyboth Wild snatches breakpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 2 July

    Jubb 6-1 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 4-5 Seyboth Wild*

Paul Jubb has hit the ball into the net and the crowd are distraught as the Brazilian grabs a critical break point.

Seyboth Wild would force a fifth set if he holds his serve here.

It’s definitely as bright as it’s been all day outside as Paul Jubb looks to make it just that bit brighter for Brits at Wimbledon.

He’s closing in on a spot in the second round for the first time.

The Brit is a huge attraction and cries of “come on, Jubby” are becoming a lot more frequent.

  20. Game and second set - Djokovicpublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 2 July

    Kopriva 1-6 2-6 Djokovic

Novak Djokovic has enough confidence in his strapped up knee to leap for a shot, although he did it so not putting any weight on it. He wraps up the second set and has only dropped three games all day.

    Two sets to love.
