If - and it still feel like a big if - Andy Murray plays tomorrow, he will make what could be his final return to Centre Court.

Murray's singles match against Tomas Machac is earmarked to be the third match on the court where the Scot has produced many of the finest moments of his illustrious career.

That's the favoured slot for Murray - and the television executives who know it'll be lapped up by a primetime audience.

It also gives Murray as much time as possible to feel he's ready to play.

Thirty-nine-year-old Stan Wawrinka knows how to win tennis matches and that's what he's done here.

British wildcard Charles Broom has thrown everything at him but the experienced Swiss wins it with a backhand winner.

He will play Gael Monfils or Adrian Mannarino in the next round, with that pair currently out on court 18.

That was a massive game to hold for Mark Lajal and he had to fend off a break point to do so and that just cranks a bit of pressure on to Carlos Alcaraz, who is now serving to stay in the second set.

Carlos Alcaraz apologises and makes sure his opponent is alright after a fiery disguised forehand from the Spaniard sends Mark Lajal flying to the floor.

The Estonian qualifier seems to be fine and he's helped back onto his feet with a motivational applause from the crowd.

    Alcaraz 7-6 (7-3) 4-4 Lajal*

Lajal had slipped when about to hit a return and that gave Alcaraz a break point and he would've been serving for a two-set lead if he had won the next point. But a sweeping forehand saves the break point. Deuce.

We're at deuce in game nine on the Lajal serve. A chance here for Alcaraz to take control of a second set which has produced few opportunities since they swapped breaks.

Fifth seed Daniil Medvedev: "It was a great match, it's never easy the first match. There were moments when it wasn't as easy as the score suggests.

"I've still never lost on Court One so hopefully I can play a lot more matches on this court. Last year I said it was unfortunate I had to go to Centre Court for the semis and I lost.

"So for the moment, I want to play on Court One, enjoy and try to win.

"It is never easy to win in straight sets, especially on grass. He was serving well and I only had one chance and I was lucky to get a winner on a first serve."

  15. 'Soliid performance from Medvedev'published at 15:02 British Summer Time 1 July

    Kovacevic 3-6 4-6 2-6 Medvedev

    Todd Woodbridge
Former Wimbledon doubles champion on BBC TV

Very solid performance from Daniil Medvedev, straight sets and an hour and 46 minutes on court. You need to keep that fuel in the tank when you are playing best of five sets in the men's draw and if you are going to go deep.

I enjoyed watching Aleksandar Kovacevic play, he was just a bit inexperienced on this big stage but there is more to come from him.

Stop it Carlitos! The Spaniard defies the odds with superhuman reaction speed to deflect a return from Mark Lajal at the net.

There are spectators stood with their arms open and mouths ajar. They can't quite believe it.

  18. Fery serving to stay in second setpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 1 July

    Altmaier 4-6 6-5 Fery*

Artur Fery on the ropes for the first time in this match and he shows no signs of concern whatsoever as he starts the 10th game with an ace and goes on to hold to love.

Daniel Atlmaier shakes that game off and comes straight back to hold too.

Pressure back on Fery as he serves to stay in the set.

    Kovacevic 3-6 4-6 2-6 Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev is through to the second round with a minimum of fuss.

A couple of big serves down the T - the first of them an ace - bring up two match points but the Russian then finds the net attempting a delicate drop volley before Aleksandar Kovacevic extends his Wimbledon debut with a winner past a wrong-footed Medvedev.

The fifth seed regroups and wraps it up a couple of points later. A good start for Medvedev as he gets the job done in an hour and 49 minutes.
