  1. 'I don't take it for granted' - Gauffpublished at 20:09 British Summer Time 1 July

    Dolehide 1-6 2-6 Gauff

Coco Gauff is talking in her on-court interview, after advancing to the second round:

“I’m really happy with how I played today. It's always tough playing a friend like Caroline and I'm really happy I was able to get through today.

"Last year I lost in the first round and it was very tough for me, that’s why I am a little emotional and that’s why I was happy to turn it around."

On this being her fifth Wimbledon at just the age of 20:

"Wimbledon is the place - not where the dream started, but where I believed that the dream was possible. I've played on a lot of big courts but every time I play here I feel even more nervous - even more than in a grand slam final

"There is something about Centre Court that’s so special. It’s an honour playing here and I don’t take it for granted."

Incredibly, Coco Gauff has never previously made it beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon - reaching that stage in 2019 and 2021.

That first run to the fourth round (2019) was, of course, when Gauff was just 15 years old.

With last year's US Open delivering a first Grand Slam title, Gauff appears to have a real confidence and swagger about her game.

How far can she go at SW19?

    *Sinner 6-3 6-4 3-6 0-0 Hanfmann

A little over 13 minutes since the last point, we are back under way on Court One.

Jannik Sinner is serving after being dragged into a fourth set by Germany's Yannick Hanfmann.

  4. game, set and match

Game, set and match - Gauffpublished at 19:59 British Summer Time 1 July

    Dolehide 1-6 2-6 Gauff

Another match point for Coco Gauff.

And this time she takes it.

Gauff's forehand bounces up fiercely and Dolehide returns wide.

A comfortable opening match and Gauff puts the rest of the field on notice.

  5. Brit Sonay Kartal in control of third setpublished at 19:59 British Summer Time 1 July

    Cirstea 6-3 2-6 0-4 Kartal*

22-year-old Sonay Kartal, who overcame serious health issues at the start of this year, is marching towards the second round.

The world 298 is now 4-0 up against Romanian Sorana Cirstea in the third set, moving her all over the court to clinch another break.

This could be another Brit in the second round.

    Watch this space.

  6. Postpublished at 19:58 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Sinner 6-3 6-4 3-6 Hanfmann

The roof has finally closed, the lights have come on... and we're still not quite ready to go.

After 10 minutes sat waiting, the two players are having a brief warm-up before the fourth set begins.

  7. Deucepublished at 19:57 British Summer Time 1 July

    Dolehide 1-6 2-5 Gauff*

Caroline Dolehide is serving to stay in the match and she takes the opening point with a lovely lob over Coco Gauff after a competitive rally. Gauff turns away, smiles and claps her hand on the strings of her racquet in appreciation of that execution.

Dolehide defends so well as roles are reversed with Gauff attempting the lob this time, flicking the ball back over the net and the US Open champion can't return.

Those moments have been few and far between for Dolehide, though.

Gauff has match point but she can't hit the ball cleanly and it's back to deuce.

  8. 'Difficult match for Sinner'published at 19:56 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Sinner 6-3 6-4 3-6 Hanfmann

    Marion Bartoli
Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

It has been a difficult match for Jannik Sinner.

For him, coming into a Grand Slam as a number one player is a new thing.

It's a lot of pressure all of a sudden that you have to handle. You are number one at Wimbledon, the most prestigious Grand Slam. You have to come and show up and perform.

The combination of everything has been difficult for Sinner.

  9. Postpublished at 19:53 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Sinner 6-3 6-4 3-6 Hanfmann

You'd think it might be Yannick Hanfmann who was slightly disappointed by this delay given the momentum he built up in that third set.

But it's Jannik Sinner who doesn't seem best pleased while talking to the umpire, complaining that he is the one who will have to serve after an eight-minute break.

I can only assume that is the time the top seed was told it takes to close roof on Court One.

  10. Gauff holdspublished at 19:52 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Dolehide 1-6 2-5 Gauff

A fine response from Coco Gauff as usually service resumes.

Gauff may have just taken her eye off the ball and shown a little complacency in the previous two games but she is firmly back on top to hold.

Dolehide can only skew the ball into the crowd as she chases a firm Gauff forehand at the baseline.

  11. The longest match so farpublished at 19:51 British Summer Time 1 July

    Bergs 1-6 4-6 7-6(2), 7-6(4), 6-7(10-8) Cazaux

There's been a few five-setters so far today but, for now, news of the longest match of the tournament so far.

The French world number 98 Arthur Cazaux beat the Belgian world number 82 Zizou Bergs 6-1 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (10-8) in four hours and 34 minutes.

There were 358 points in total with both remarkably winning 179 of them. But, as we know, that's not how tennis works.

We suspect those two are now in the ice bath.

  12. 'Hanfmann deserved that third set'published at 19:50 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Sinner 6-3 6-4 3-6 Hanfmann

    Mark Woodforde
17-time Grand Slam doubles champion on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

It was well played. Yannick Hanfmann went out and deserved that third set with the way that he played the third set with the foot on the accelerator.

The last two points, he just went for it and he got what he deserved.

  13. Dolehide holdspublished at 19:49 British Summer Time 1 July

    Dolehide 1-6 2-4 Gauff*

There's something rumbling here with Caroline Dolehide. How much ground can she claw back?

Dolehide holds serve for just the second time in this match and wins back-to-back games for the first time.

  14. Game and third set - Hanfmannpublished at 19:49 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Sinner 6-3 6-4 3-6 Hanfmann

Well, well, well. Yannick Hanfmann takes the third set against the world number one.

The German started the game with a double fault but held his nerve and comes through after a decent rally at set point.

Having forced Jannik Sinner back, he gets to the net to put away the volley and win the set.

On we go... well, not quite yet. They're closing the roof before the fourth set begins so we'll have a brief delay.

  15. 'About Gauff playing at an extraordinary level'published at 19:45 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Dolehide 1-6 1-4 Gauff

    Tracy Austin
Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC TV

This is not about Dolehide playing poorly, This is about Gauff playing at an extraordinary level.

  16. Dolehide breakspublished at 19:45 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Dolehide 1-6 1-4 Gauff

Coco Gauff strides forward to meet a drop shot and puts a lovely disguise on her return, eventually opening up her body to strike with a forehand as Caroline Dolehide is running in the other direction. 30-15.

Here comes Dolehide with one opportunity at a break point and she takes it, meeting the ball at the net and volleying down the line.

Dolehide has only won seven points when facing Gauff's serve and four of those came in that game!

  17. 'Superb volley from Hanfmann'published at 19:41 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Sinner 6-3 6-4 2-5 Hanfmann

    Mark Woodforde
17-time Grand Slam doubles champion on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

Yannick Hanfmann with a superb volley, it probably wasn't supposed to be a drop volley but that's the way that it turned out.

I think it's more the hamstring that he might have overly stretched there.

  18. 'Dolehide running out of time'published at 19:41 British Summer Time 1 July

    Dolehide 1-6 0-4 Gauff*

    Ashleigh Barty
Three-time Grand Slam champion on BBC TV

Caroline needs to change her rhythm – serve and volley perhaps. It might just make Coco go think about a few things.

You can see the frustration building for Caroline and she's running out of time.

  19. Postpublished at 19:41 British Summer Time 1 July

    *Sinner 6-3 6-4 2-5 Hanfmann

Brilliant from Yannick Hanfmann to stretch and reach Jannik Sinner's cross-court backhand, stunning it on the volley to secure the hold.

Prior to that he had three break points on the Sinner serve but was unable to convert.

He's one game away from taking the set but the slight worry for the German is that he seems to have hurt himself reaching for that last shot.

  20. Gauff breaks againpublished at 19:40 British Summer Time 1 July

    Dolehide 1-6 0-4 Gauff*

Coco Gauff's court awareness and shot selection is something to behold as she continues to dominate.

The 2023 US Open champion steps up to the net and slams a volley to lead 40-15.

Caroline Dolehide has advantage and a chance to halt Gauff's seven-game winning streak but she fires into the net.

And Gauff makes her pay by winning the next two points to break again.
