  4. 'Gauff backhand is a genuine weapon'published at 19:07 1 July

    Dolehide 1-2 Gauff*

    Ashleigh Barty
Three-time Grand Slam champion on BBC TV

Gauff’s backhand is a genuine weapon but when she has time on that forehand she is super aggressive.

You have to be sure that if you are going to both wings, you have to have quality.

  5. Dolehide wins her first gamepublished at 19:06 1 July

    Dolehide 1-2 Gauff*

Caroline Dolehide has managed to hold her first game despite some clever play by Gauff, including a lovely smash.

The US Open champion took us to deuce from 40-0 down, but Dolehide hit a winner down the line before Gauff went slightly too long.

    Both players up and running.

Jannik Sinner has been pushed on serve for most of the second set, but not this time.

    *Sinner 6-3 5-4 Hanfmann

    Marion Bartoli
Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sounds

One of the areas we feel Jannick Sinner is going more into the net and working on that transition game to have a better feel around the net.

He has been really doing that work on the court and it is showing.

He is playing volleys in the right direction, he is picking the right spots and where to play them as well.

  8. Gauff holdspublished at 19:01 1 July

    *Dolehide 0-2 Gauff

Gauff wins to love with some wonderful serving that keeps points relatively short.

  13. Gauff takes to Centre Courtpublished at 18:53 1 July

    Dolehide v Gauff

    Emily Salley
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

We're ready for today's final match on Centre Court.

Exactly five years ago, a 15-year-old Gauff inflicted a famous Wimbledon defeat on five-time champion Venus Williams.

Now she's a Grand Slam champion, having won in New York last year, and she enters the Championships as the second seed.

Not a bad career progression, eh?

As always, you can watch at the top of the page, former British number one Sam Smith is on commentary.

  14. Postpublished at 18:53 1 July

    *Sinner 6-3 4-3 Hanfmann

Solid hold for Yannick Hanfmann to keep himself just one break down in the second set.

Jannik Sinner is able to exert some pressure on the German's serve but no more than he has faced himself in his past couple of service games.

  15. Postpublished at 18:50 1 July

    Dolehide v Gauff

    Emily Salley
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

It's been five years since five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams suffered a famous defeat at the hands of a 15-year-old Coco Gauff.

The win hurled Gauff - ranked 313th at the time - into the limelight and she went on to have an incredible run that year, reaching the last 16.

She claimed a long-predicted first Grand Slam title at last year's US Open and arrives at SW19 this year as the second seed.

But Gauff has not been able to better her magical 2019 run at Wimbledon, falling at the first hurdle last year to compatriot Sofia Kenin.

"Coco is a fighter," says former British player Naomi Broady. "She is a Grand Slam champion now and she did that at home - that is probably the toughest one for her to win with all the expectations and pressure."

  16. Sinner holdspublished at 18:49 1 July

    Sinner 6-3 4-2 Hanfmann*

The Jannik Sinner serve is under threat again but he saves another break point by whipping a forehand winner down the line.

Yannick Handfmann continues to push and creates another break point which is shut down by a Sinner's big serve.

A clever drop shot makes it advantage Sinner and another hefty serve secures the hold.

  17. Chance for Gauff to banish 2023 disappointmentpublished at 18:48 1 July

    Dolehide v Gauff

A first-round exit to fellow American Sofia Kenin made last year's Wimbledon one to follow for Coco Gauff.

But it is fair to say the 20-year-old has bounced back since then, winning the US Open and reaching the last four at both the Australian Open and Roland Garros this year.

Gauff will be eyeing a second Grand Slam title but has never gone beyond the fourth round at SW19.

After last year's shock loss, it is another all-American encounter to start for Gauff with Caroline Dolehide standing between her and a place in the second round.

Dolehide made it to the quarter-finals in Birmingham but has lost both previous matches against Gauff and has never won at Wimbledon.

    *Sinner 6-3 3-2 Hanfmann

A moment of concern for Jannik Sinner as he slips after being wrong-footed by Yannick Hanfmann and clutches the right hip which has troubled him this year.

He is up again and indicates that he is OK but that is one to keep an eye on.

The Italian remains firmly on top, both in this set and the match, but it could have been different had Hanfmann been able to convert any of his three break points in Sinner's last service game.

As it was, he was no match for the world number one's big serving and Sinner remains a break up.
