Student loan change 'will put jobs in focus,' says Willetts
Ministers and officials have been working on a policy that could bring major changes to England's student loan system, BBC Newsnight has learned.
The plan could lead to higher tuition fee charges, and changes in loan terms and the way higher education works.
David Willetts, the former universities minister, who officials say championed the idea, said that the change would "give universities a stronger incentive to focus on the jobs and earning prospects of their graduates".
