Sir Mansel Aylward: NHS in Wales not making 'best' use of its money

One of Wales' most eminent doctors has said the NHS in Wales has not been making the best use of its financial resources.

It comes as Health Minister Mark Drakeford said up to a fifth of the NHS's work did not benefit patients and could cause them harm.

He is expected to tell the health service to adopt a policy of "prudent medicine".

Professor Sir Mansel Aylward, a key health advisor to the Welsh government and chairman of Public Health Wales, told BBC Radio Wales: "It's about making the best use of financial resources and we have not been doing that."

He spoke to Mai Davies.
