  2. 'Joint venture' in Carl Campbell murderpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 25 July 2017

A detective in the case of a father shot dead at point blank range said while only one man pulled the trigger, two others deserved the life sentence they've also been given.

Bilston man Carl Campbell was 33 when he was shot in a car at traffic lights in West Bromwich. His murderers Jaspal Rai, Mohammed Humza and Vikesh Chauhan were sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court this afternoon.

DI Jim Munro said: "This was a joint venture between the three; the gun was in Humza's hands but the others knew about it and that it was to be used to shoot and kill. In essence, they were all in joint possession of the gun on that fateful day.

"Hopefully the victim's family can take some comfort from the fact the killers will spend much of their lives behind bars."

  4. Father shot dead at point blank range over 'stolen watch'published at 14:28 British Summer Time 25 July 2017

The "hail of bullets" murder of a father-of-one as he sat in a car was a revenge shooting over a stolen, diamond-studded watch, a court heard.

Sentencing Jaspal Rai, Mohammed Humza and Vikesh Chauhan to life in prison this afternoon, a judge at Birmingham Crown Court said the trio had "tailed and targeted" their victim, Bilston man Carl Campbell, 33.

A witness had spoken of seeing his murderers laughing, smiling and appearing "happy" after the deadly attack as they dumped their stolen getaway car.

The jury trying four men in an alleged terror cell accused of plotting a Lee Rigby-style attack has been sent out to begin deliberations.

The group - known as The Three Musketeers - was arrested last summer following an undercover operation by police and MI5.

The Old Bailey has heard how a stash of weapons and ammunition, including a partially-built pipe bomb and a meat cleaver, was found in Mr Ali's car in Birmingham on August 26 last year.

But the defendants claim the items - found in a JD Sports bag - were planted by corrupt undercover officers.

A juror was discharged last week after it emerged she had tried to play matchmaker for another woman on the jury who found a police officer in the case attractive. He had been criticised during the trial by the defence team.

Sentencing the trio at Birmingham Crown Court this afternoon, Lord Justice Haddon-Cave said the motive was revenge over property the killers thought Mr Campbell had stolen.

Mohammed Humza - who pleaded guilty to murder at an earlier hearing - was sentenced to a minimum of 28-and-a-half years in prison before he could be considered for parole.

Vikesh Chauhan and Jaspal Rai, convicted of murder at trial, were sentenced to a minimum of 30 years in prison.
