    After a disappointing return to the Championship, the club is looking to rebuild for next season and manager Nathan Jones said he's "excited" about creating a new-look side over the summer.

  2. 'Rise in West Midlands knife crime'published at 10:41 British Summer Time 25 April 2019

    Knife crime across the West Midlands force area rose by almost 17% last year, figures show.

    On average, almost nine crimes involving knives were recorded per day during the year to December 2018, according to Home Office figures. And there were 22 homicides and 50 attempted murders involving knives.

    Record knife-crime levels have been recorded across the country.

    The figures came the day after an 18-year-old boy was stabbed to death in Birmingham.

    Overall levels of crime nationally show no significant change during the period.

    A £5,000 reward is being offered for information about a "terrifying" burglary following the death of the 83-year-old victim.

    Betsy Malpass had her life-savings stolen during the "horrendous ordeal" in which four men tricked their way into her Dudley home in February, said Crimestoppers, external.

    She was taken to hospital after the break-in but died three days later, the charity added.

    The reward is being offered to anyone supplying information leading to a conviction.

  4. 'Most Telford goods exported to EU'published at 10:12 British Summer Time 25 April 2019

    Telford has been the UK town with the largest share of goods exported to the European Union, according to a study.

    Figures from The Centre for Cities research group cover 2017 and suggest, external 59% of the goods exported by businesses in Telford went to EU countries, putting it well ahead of the national average of 25%.

    Telford is a Brexit town. In the EU referendum, Leave won 63.2% of the local vote.

    The killing of a teenager, stabbed in Harborne, Birmingham, last night, has been described as "another senseless and tragic" death.

    The 18-year-old suffered fatal injuries in Tennal Road, Harborne, at about 19:15.

    Birmingham City Council leader Ian Ward tweeted: "I can't begin to imagine how the young man's family and friends are feeling this morning."

    Coventry City goalkeeping coach Steve Ogrizovic is to retire at the end of this season after 35 years with the club.

    The Sky Blues legend was part of the side which helped win the club's first major domestic honour, keeping goal in its 3-2 1987 FA Cup final win over Spurs.

    'Oggy', 61, made 601 appearances for the club during his 16 years as a player before spending another 19 years on the backroom staff.

    Manager Mark Robins said: “Steve has made a huge contribution to Coventry City Football Club and football as a whole.

    “The word legend is banded about often, but with Oggy it really is justified."

    A man is set to appear in court charged with murder after an 18-year-old was found dead in a flat.

    Megan Newton was found at the property in Fletcher Road, Stoke-on-Trent, on Saturday afternoon.

    Joseph Trevor, from Trentham,18, appeared before magistrates at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Tuesday accused of her murder.

    He was remanded in custody and is due before crown court judges later today.

    The RSPCA is warning people to think twice before taking on an exotic pet.

    The charity said it received more than 600 calls in the West Midlands last year about stray, sick, suffering and neglected exotic animals such as reptiles and birds.

    Among the animals the charity was called about was a bearded dragon who was dumped in an shoebox near Telford.

    The call comes after a snake was discovered in the Halford's car park in Foleshill, Coventry, yesterday.

    The RSPCA is urging people to do their research beforehand.

    A police cordon remains in place at the scene of a fatal stabbing in Birmingham.

    An 18-year-old man suffered fatal injuries in Tennal Road, Harborne, at about 19:15 on Wednesday.

    One resident, Tony Foster, who lives just up the road from the scene and who has an 18-year-old son said: "It is really concerning.

    "This type of thing doesn't happen around here at all, so it is really unusual.

    "My son is going out with his friends tonight and I'll be drumming into him a bit more than usual to be careful."

    A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
