  1. Rye Hill sex offenders prison healthcare still 'inadequate'published at 14:45 British Summer Time 28 July 2016

    Fresh concerns have been raised over "inadequate" health care provision at Rye Hill Prison near Rugby. 

    The annual Independent Monitoring Board report , externalsays it's worrying that required improvements are taking too long.

    The prison, which holds about 620 sex offenders, failed a Care Quality Commission audit last year.

    A re-inspection in April found that, despite some improvements, it still failed to meet legal requirements regarding inmate care plans and suitably trained health care staff.

    The report does highlight that Rye Hill is now a "more settled" prison.

    Expecting to take between eight and 10 hours, Heather Clatworthy completed the swim between Stroove beach and Portstewart in four hours, 15 minutes.

    The only other recorded time the feat was achieved was in 1929 by channel swimmer Mercedes Gleitze, who took on the challenge to help promote tourism on the scenic coastline.

    For the first time in almost 90 years, an amateur swimmer has successfully crossed a 13-mile stretch of sea between two points off Ireland's north coast. 

    Heather Clatworthy, a charity worker from Leamington Spa, is only the second person to swim from Stroove beach on Co Donegal’s Inishowen peninsula and the resort of Portstewart in Co Derry, Northern Ireland.

    In Whitnash, you may see your council tax going up to help balance the books at the parish council.

    There's concern the grant currently paid to parish councils to maintain things such as parks and open spaces is being halved over the next financial year and stopped completely after that.

    Judy Falp, a Whitnash parish and town councillor, has serious concerns and says: "Our rates will have to go up. 

    "Projects we have would hoped to have done next year, such as a play scheme, now won't take place."

    The money is currently paid by Warwick District Council.

    The Midlands has more than a hundred fewer pubs than it did six months ago, according to the Campaign for Real Ale, external (CAMRA).

    While 129 have opened across the region, 241 have closed and CAMRA say it's rural and suburban pubs that are the worst hit. 

    It adds that those not serving food are also struggling but the expansion of places serving food and the increase in demand for craft beer is seen as a positive.

    Two people have been treated for minor injuries after a crash involving a car and a bus in the centre of Coventry, says the ambulance service.

    A woman was cut from her car and the driver of the bus was also hurt in the collision.

    A woman's been cut free from her vehicle after a crash involving a bus and a car on Hales Street in Coventry.

    It happened at 08:23 near Pool Meadow bus station, say police.

    Part of the street near the Fairfax Street junction is currently closed.

    Warwickshire's four-wicket defeat to Durham in the Royal London One-Day Cup leaves them needing a win in their final group game at Yorkshire to stand any chance of reaching the quarter finals. 

    It's the same in the T20 Blast format - as the Bears have to beat Lancashire at Old Trafford tomorrow night to reach the last eight in that competition. 

    Director of Cricket Dougie Brown says the two matches will prove if they have the character to cope under pressure.

    Car manufacturing in the West Midlands has surged and is at its highest level since the year 2000, according to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. 

    Across the country, almost 900,000 cars have rolled off production lines so far this year - a 13% increase on last year.
