    The MP for Nuneaton is calling on the borough and county councils to work more closely on regenerating the town centre.

    Marcus Jones wants to see a cross-party working group to create a master plan for redevelopment and to attract investment.

    He says the town is not punching its weight and there's frustration at the lack of action.

    West Midlands Police is reminding people support is available for victims of domestic abuse, after a man was jailed for life with a minimum of 15 years for beating his wife to death with a hammer.

    Gambling addict Paul Abbott admitted murdering his wife Jacqueline after a row over gig tickets. 

    Det Insp Justin Spanner said the force could provide help for people in abusive and controlling relationships, external.

    We've got more on the news we broke earlier this month, that illegal skin bleaching products were being sold in shops in Coventry.

    Trading standards in Coventry say tests are being carried to see if skin bleaching products seized at three outlets in the city contain banned substances. 

    Their action has been prompted by our investigation into the issue. 

    Alan Harwood, from the trading standards department, told us four premises had now been visited and 56 products seized.

    Emergency services in the Midlands are warning of the dangers of swimming in open water, especially during the school holidays.

    In the past week, eight people across the UK have died after swimming in rivers, quarries and lakes, including 46-year-old Sylwester Ficon in Burton upon Trent.

    Some 70p tickets are being offered by the Royal Shakespeare Company to help celebrate the re-opening of the Other Place.

    A limited number of seats are available at the 1974 price - which is when the experimental studio theatre opened.

    They're for the Making Mischief Festival which starts tomorrow.

  14. First FGM figures show 75 new cases for Coventrypublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 26 July 2016

    The first recorded figures for female genital mutilaton (FGM) show that between April 2015 and March 2016 there were around 75 new cases in Coventry.

    The data was recorded by doctors and nurses, external who have been obliged to do so since July 2015.

    Female genital mutilation is a form of child abuse

    The West Midlands recorded around 425 new cases, with Coventry being the second highest authority behind Birmingham.

    Most of the women and girls were born in Africa and underwent the procedure there.

    Some bus services are being diverted whilst gas main replacement work is carried out.

    Broad Lane towards the city centre, between Nod Rise and Fletchamstead Highway, is shut.

    National Express Coventry says, external service 10, from Eastern Green to the city centre will be diverted and will not serve Broad Lane, between Alderminster Road and Fletchamstead Highway.
