    Police handling of hate crime is to be reviewed after a sharp rise in incidents following the EU referendum, the home secretary has announced.

    Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) will analyse how forces in England and Wales respond, Amber Rudd said.

    It comes after figures showed there have been more than 6,000 reports of hate crime to police since mid June.  

    BBC Coventry and Warwickshire presenter Trish Adudu reported an incident of hate crime to the police after she was racially abused.

    About 300 properties are still affected by a burst water main at Kirby Corner Road in Coventry, Severn Trent says.

    The earlier problem affected some parts of the University of Warwick closing the library and teaching grid area for a time.

    Severn Trent says the area around the junction of Lynchgate Road could be partially closed until the main is completely repaired tomorrow.

    The way police handle hate crime is to be reviewed after a sharp rise in incidents following the EU referendum. 

    The Home Secretary Amber Rudd will ask Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary to carry out the review. 

    There were more than 6,000 reports to the police since the middle of June - which is up by a fifth compared to the same time last year.

    In the West Midlands, the region's force said last month the average number of reports had remained at a similar level since April, despite national figures showing an increase.

    A doctor just back from coaching Syrian medics says many of them haven't received any training in the five years since the nationwide uprising.

    Dr Nihal Abosaif, from Coventry's University Hospital, delivered courses in the Turkish city of Gaziantep, about 50kms (31 miles) from Aleppo in northern Syria. 

    She said most of those on the course were anaesthetists and not trained for medical emergencies, but she was able to deliver training on treatment of trauma and medical management.
