Coventry tower block residents are demanding sprinklers be fitted in all high rise buildings.
Around 25 people attended a public meeting, organised by the local Socialist Party, that resolved to set up a residents' representation group and start a petition.
"I would like to see a sprinkler system in place. We have a lot of disabled people on higher floors, so how they going to get down the stairway?", said Corrinna Rogers, who lives in Pioneer House.
"It would be nice if we had a communal fire alarm that could be set off by the concierge," added Ms Rogers, who was trapped in a fire in her building almost 20 years ago,

The government's approved plans to build 13,000 homes across Warwick district over the next 12 years.
The council's Local Plan will also create a new country park along the Tach Brook and extra investment along Europa Way, along the A46, and new primary and secondary schools in Warwick and Kenilworth.
It's still got to be signed off by councillors who will discuss it in September.
A Coventry man says he's furious that his holiday flight back to the UK is being delayed because of increased security checks at airports.
They've been brought in following the Paris and Brussels terror attacks and affects countries outside the Schengen Free Movement Area - like the UK .
Paul Donaldson was initially told he faced a two-hour wait to return to the UK from Crete and later discovered it had risen to 18 hours.
"When we got to the airport we were told there was a two-hour delay after being in the airport for half an hour.
"Then one of the friends I'd met on holiday just went on the website to see what the update was and we noticed it had changed to 18 hours."
He said he feels "very angry" and stranded at the airport. He hopes he will be able to return later today.

In the past year, more people had their prison sentences increased in the West Midlands than anywhere else, figures show.
Twenty seven people in the region were sent to prison for longer, under the Unduly Lenient Sentence Scheme, which allows anyone to request that certain prison spells be increased within 28 days of the original sentencing.
The Attorney General's Office said latest figures revealed that 141 terms were added to in England and Wales in 2016 under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme, up by 39 from 2015.
But Solicitor General, Robert Buckland, told BBC News that with more than 77,000 sentences handed out last year, the percentage of those having theirs increased is pretty small.
The Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, has written to congratulate South Warwickshire NHS Trust for their "exceptional" improvements.
The Trust, which runs Warwick Hospital, achieved 95% in the Friend and Family test recommendation rate in May of this year.
The letter said it was a "real example" in how to improve performance in a short space of time.
