    Fly-tipping incidents in Coventry have increased by 44% over the last year.

    Latest figures show there were 3, 342 incidents - just over a thousand more incidents than the previous year.

    "Unfortunately, fly-tipping incidents are increasing. This appears to be a national trend," notes the council's end-of-year performance report, external, which contains the figures.

    The report attributes the rise to "a combination of easier reporting, reduced enforcement action and increased disposal fees".

    A former executive at the Government's Learning and Skills Council has been named as the new prinicpal of Coventry College.

    Peter Brammall until last month was at Guildford College - before that he was the executive director of the LSC in Derbyshire, and Birmingham and Solihull.

    Coventry College is the merged Henley College and City College.

  11. Rare butterfly spotted in Stratfordpublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 1 August 2017

    A rare butterfly has been spotted on the Stratford-upon-Avon Recreation Ground during the nationwide Big Butterfly Count.

    The White Letter Hairstreak - Satyrium w-album, was feeding on wildflowers in a meadow recently planted by the district council.

    The insect was spotted by Stratford Butterfly Farm Education Officers Adam McVeigh and John Withers.

    The butterfly has been on the decline since Dutch Elm disease took hold and is not a common sight in the area.

    Tongan 7's player Anthony Matoto joins in time to face the Leicester Lions in the first pre-season match this Thursday.

    He's joined by back row Waita Setu, who'll be ready to play for the Butts park side against Nuneaton next Wednesday

    Five thousand randomly selected words were shown to more than 800 people online, with those most tickling funny bones given a "mean humour rating".

    The research suggested men and women differed in the words they found funniest, with men finding sexual words such as orgy and bondage more humorous.

    "Giggle", "beast" and "circus" scored more highly with women.
