    Warwickshire sport director Ashley Giles [pictured below] says it's a chance to "go back and start again" after their relegation to Division Two of the County Championship was all but confirmed with defeat to champions-elect Essex.

    They were beaten by an innings and 56 runs at Edgbaston after being bowled out for 112 in their second innings.

  4. Three arrested after 'stolen' car overturns in police pursuitpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    The car that overturned, injuring three people in Nuneaton this afternoon, was subject to a "short police pursuit", the force has said.

    The three, who were travelling in a stolen VW Golf were taken to hospital, but are not seriously injured.

    All three have been arrested and the IPCC has been informed, officers said.

    Local councillor, Keith Kondakor has tweeted this picture of the crash scene.

  5. Coventry bus crash: Company admits failing to ensure safety of employees and publicpublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    A bus company that's admitted health and safety failings in relation to a fatal bus crash in Coventry is found to have failed to ensure the safety of employees between April 2015 and the day of the crash six months later.

    The second charge Midland Red pleaded guilty to stated that it failed to ensure members of the public were not exposed to risks to their safety arising out of the driving of public service vehicles by driver Kailash Chander.

    Rowan Fitzgerald, aged seven, and 76-year-old pedestrian Dora Hancox both died in the crash.

    Rowan, of Leamington Spa, was on the upper deck with his grandparents and his cousin, an eight-year-old girl who was seriously hurt.

    Ms Hancox was a was a lollipop lady in Coventry and Nuneaton and had dedicated many years of her life as a foster carer for Coventry social services, her family said.

    Five other people required hospital treatment after the crash in Trinity Street on 3 October.

    Police say they expect Hinckley Road, in Nuneaton, to remain closed "for some time" after a car overturned, injuring three people.

    The VW Golf, identified as suspect by officers, hit a Renault and Skoda before ending up on its roof, police said.

    They won't yet confirm whether the three people in custody have been arrested or whether the car was being pursued by a police vehicle at the time.

    A car identified as suspect by police has overturned after crashing with two other vehicles in Hinckley Road, Nuneaton.

    Three people have been taken to hospital, including a man in his 20s police believe was the driver of the overturned car, suffering from multiple injuries.

    Hinckley Road remains closed between Higham Lane and Tavistock Way.

    Police said they identified the suspect vehicle at 11:54 and an order to use preventative tactics to stop the car was issued.

    Three people are currently in custody, the force said, after the crash which happened at 12:59.

    The use of bus gates in Coventry is to be investigated after the opposition Conservative party claimed thousands of drivers have been wrongly fined.

    A bus gate is a junction where only buses can pass.

    Conservative councillor Tim Mayer said an independent adjudicator found that signage on the bus-only lane under the Whittle Arches in the city centre isn't good enough.

    In 2016 a typing error in a Department for Transport (DfT) authorisation letter meant signs near Coventry's railway station were not legally enforceable and up to £50,000 could be refunded to motorists who were wrongly fined.

    The councillor in charge of city services Jayne Innes said she would be having a "really good look" at the new evidence.

    Midland Red (South) Ltd are due to be sentenced at Warwick Crown Court on 6 October after admitting two charges brought under the Health and Safety law following a fatal bus crash in Coventry.

    The managing director of Midland Red Steve Burd and its operations director Jim Mortimore attended court on behalf of the company, which is based at offices in Daw Bank, Stockport.

    The facts of the safety breaches were not opened by prosecutor Michael Gregory, who told District Judge Lesley Mottram: "The prosecution submission is that this matter is so serious that you should use your powers to commit it to the Crown Court for sentencing."

    The case came a week after 79-year-old bus driver Kailash Chander appeared before the court charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

    The bus operator expressed its sorrow about the fatal crash after the court hearing today, in which it admitted two charges of health and safety breaches.

    Appearing at Coventry Magistrates' Court, Midland Red (South) Ltd entered guilty pleas to the two charges after failing to prevent risks of "driver error" linked to fatigue and excessive working hours.

    Bus passenger Rowan Fitzgerald, aged seven, and 76-year-old pedestrian Dora Hancox were both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in Trinity Street, Coventry.
