A project to turn part of the M5 through Worcestershire into a smart motorway is expected to be finished early next year.
However, a poll by the AA has found that eight out of 10 drivers think the removal of permanent hard shoulders has made motorways more unsafe.

It will allow the hard shoulder to be used as a fourth lane during busy periods.

Its poll found that eight out of 10 drivers thought the removal of permanent hard shoulders had made motorways more unsafe than four years ago.
