Worcestershire has announced that captain Daryl Mitchell has been "relieved of his duties".
The 32-year-old opening batsman has been captain at the club for six years.
Worcestershire Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes said the two had gone through "lots of ups and downs " and feels for the team to go forward it needed "a fresh start".
He said he hopes Mitchell can continue to play "a key role" as a batsman.
Quote MessageAlthough I disagree with [Steve Rhodes] decision, I do fully respect it and know it has been made with the very best intentions for Worcestershire CCC moving forward."

The trust running hospitals in Worcester has rejected suggestions that services at the Alexandra in Redditch could have been maintained if it was run from Birmingham.
A letter from University Hospitals Birmingham criticised plans to move services out of Redditch, saying they could have stayed in the town if it has been allowed to run the hospital,
Chris Tidman, the interim chief executive of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (WAHT), says there have been three independent clinical reviews into the changes.
Quote MessageThe reason we're looking to make these changes is about patient safety - as a board we're listening to what our doctors have said and it's about making our service safe and sustainable. [Campaigners] say this is all about money - it's not about money at all."

The Trust running Birmingham's hospitals say some of their services are under "significant pressure" because of the increase in patients being sent to them from north Worcestershire, instead of going to the hospital in Worcester.

This letter from the trust running hospitals in Birmingham questions the plan, and says it could have taken over the Alexandra Hospital and possibly kept some services there.
Cuts to policing are being blamed for a fall in the number of people caught using their phones while driving.
The Police Federation says the deployment of fewer traffic officers has made it easier to avoid being prosecuted.
Last year the number of people caught in West Mercia fell by a quarter to 2,300.
Quote MessageIf we have less officers to enforce, of course we're going to have less prosecutions."

The trust running Birmingham's hospitals has suggested it could have stepped in to keep some emergency services at the Alexandra in Redditch if it had been allowed to take over the hospital.
BBC Hereford & Worcester has seen a letter from University Hospitals Birmingham which criticises plans to move some services out of Redditch, saying changes there have already led to a 17% increase in patients travelling to Birmingham for emergency treatment.
NHS managers want to permanently move some A&E, maternity and childrens' services from Redditch to Worcester - in the face of fierce opposition from a campaign group.
The letter from the trust running hospitals in Birmingham suggests there was another option - to allow it to take over Redditch and possibly keep some services there.
But letting a Birmingham trust take over the Alexandra Hospital would probably create big financial problems for the rest of Worcestershire.
The answer to the question below is that Slimbridge are the visitors to Edgar Street tonight - but the dressing room won't look like this after the game.
