    Breaking

Construction work to permanently replace Eastham Bridge, which collapsed into the River Teme in May, is to begin next month, the council says.

Worcestershire County Council says it has been working closely with specialist contractors and the Environment Agency, Historic England, Natural England and Malvern Hills District Council to decide the best way to rebuild the Grade II listed bridge.

The new bridge cannot be a "like for like" copy of the 18th Century original, the council says - it collapsed after fast-moving water undermined its piers.

The bridge will be operational by April next year, a spokesman says.

Making [the Alexandra Hospital] work as a part-time, run-down hospital with some services missing is not an option. You can't have acute medicine at the Alexandra Hospital without surgery, without gynaecology, without these services."

We had [these kind of concerns] 12 or 13 years ago at Kidderminster, there were lots of concerns about what will happen with a 30 minute drive to Worcester, but all the evidence shows once you dial 999 an ambulance picks you up and you are in good hands."
