The MP for Redditch says the town's hospital will be there "for many years to come", despite cutbacks in the services it offers.

Karen Lumbley organised a public meeting last night where hundreds of local people expressed their anger at the way the Alexandra Hospital is being run.

    Quote Message

Six years ago two of the options on the table were that there wouldn't be a hospital at all - the Alex is still there and will still be there for many years to come. The services are not safe there, which is why there are temporary closures of the wards."

    Quote Message

The new bridge that we will be building cannot be a like for like replacement for the old, listed bridge, but it will include some of the original elements of the old bridge and most importantly will get people moving across the river as quickly as possible."

The MP for Worcester, Robin Walker, says he has spoken to a national plumbing and heating supplier about the threat to their distribution centre in Worcester.

Wolseley UK say they are considering shutting the site as part of restructuring plans.

Mr Walker says he's been told around 140 employees would be affected but he has asked the company to consider keeping the centre open.

    Quote Message

I said to Wolseley that I hope they don't take the decision to close their site, but if they do I want to make sure they are linking up with the county council and city council to make sure there is new employment being created and that as many people are relocated to their other sites, if that's what they want."

    Robin Walker, MP for Worcester

  13. Eastham bridge: Temporary bridge would have needed environmental impact surveypublished at 11:30 British Summer Time 29 September 2016

A temporary bridge to replace the 18th Century structure which collapsed into the River Teme would not have been practical as it would have needed a full environmental impact survey, the council says.

Worcestershire County Council says Eastham Bridge, near Tenbury Wells, is in a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and building a temporary bridge could not have gone ahead without the survey.

Local residents have complained they've been forced to take long diversions since the bridge collapsed in May.
