A landlord has been fined nearly £900 at Hull Magistrates' Court for attempting an illegal eviction. 

In December 2015, Norman Porter, from Hull, turned off the electricity supply to a rented flat, leaving his tenant without heating, hot water, lighting or cooking facilities for at least two days.

Porter had pleaded guilty under the Protection from Eviction Act "of committing acts likely to interfere with the peace or comfort of the residential occupier".

Hull City have activated contract extensions for several players including Robert Snodgrass who's been linked with a move away from the club. 

Speaking at this morning's press conference ahead of the Boxing Day match against Manchester City, Mike Phelan said he's determined to keep players at the club during the January transfer window.

With Storm Barbara looming large this afternoon, potentially bringing severe gales and gusts of up to 70mph, Northern Powergrid is preparing for the worst should our region be hit. 

The company delivers electricity to homes and businesses across the area.

Geoff Earl, director of safety, health and environment, says their customers should be reassured that they are ready to deal with any problems.

Rough sleepers have described being urinated on, having belongings stolen and being sexually assaulted while living on the streets.

Homeless charity Crisis said of 458 street sleepers it interviewed in England and Wales, 80% had suffered an attack or abuse in 2016.

More than half said they did not report crimes, as many believed that the police would not be able to help them.  

Gary, who has slept rough in Yorkshire, told Crisis he feared gangs of youths who would roam the streets in the early hours.

"Anyone sleeping in the shop door was done. They used to brick them or worse still - a couple of lads that were sleeping on the streets with me got knifed while they were asleep."

Yorkshire and the Humber are to be targeted as part of a new £60m annual fund set up by the government to help areas of England with high levels of second-home ownership to "tackle the problem".

The money, to be shared by 150 councils over five years, will go into providing "affordable" housing for first-time buyers in places where demand is high.

The money has been raised through increases in stamp duty.

Housing Minister Gavin Barwell said this would help those who struggle to get permanent accommodation.  

Yorkshire and the Humber will get £6m, the South East will get £11m, the East of England almost £9m and the North West almost £6m.

Hull City announces it has "exercised its option" to extend the contracts of six key players at the club.

An owner of Grimsby Town Football Club says a new ice rink planned for the club's new £55m stadium complex was not designed to replace the old one.

Property developers Extreme Leisure revealed plans for the new 14,000-seater stadium this morning, and as well as restaurants and shops, it also features an ice rink.

Two days ago, councillors in North East Lincolnshire voted to shut Grimsby's 40-year-old ice arena, which they claim is operating at a loss, despite strong opposition from local groups.

Ward 11 at Castle Hill in Cottingham has been given the Dr Hermon Cup, first awarded back in 1938, external. 

The cup was only rediscovered after being found in the archives recently.

Drugs worth an estimated £500,000 are seized at an East Yorkshire prison in three months.

The widower of murdered Yorkshire MP Jo Cox will deliver this year's alternative Christmas message on Channel 4.

Brendan Cox will call for an end to the "rise of hatred" in the broadcast on 25 December.

He will also pay tribute to his wife and discuss the "awful year for our family" in the pre-recorded message.

Mr Cox will also tell viewers that now is the "moment to reach out to somebody that might disagree with us".

Mrs Cox was shot and stabbed to death by Thomas Mair in her Batley and Spen constituency in June.

The number of people who are homeless in North East Lincolnshire has almost doubled this year, according to the official government count.

The Harbour Place Day Centre in Grimsby, external assists the homeless and staff there say they've also helped 110 people find accommodation.

Hull City are bottom of the Premier League table at Christmas and face a tough Boxing Day home game with title-chasing Manchester City.

Skipper Michael Dawson insists his team-mates are not feeling sorry for themselves.

"We just haven’t had the rub of the green really. Unfortunately football can be cruel like that at times," he says.

"The Premier League is hard, but we deserve to be here after what we did in the Championship. We will keep on fighting.”

Around half a million pounds' worth of drugs have been found at HMP Humber in just three months.

The contraband was found following intelligence-led searches since October, according to the Ministry of Justice.

The availability of drugs within the prison was said to be far too high, external in a report into the jail published last year.
