    Plans for more student accommodation at the University of Hull have been submitted.

    The £130m West Campus Residences development will feature a range of apartments for 1,462 students.

    The submission follows a public consultation.

    A video link to Grimsby Court will be made available in Scunthorpe when the magistrates closes on Thursday. 

    The technology will be put up in Church Square House and used for urgent housing and family hearings.

    A body recovered from a stretch of water on Cough Road yesterday has been identified as the missing Hull man Paul Smith.

    His family have been informed.

    Mr Smith's death is not thought to be suspicious.

    Free open air Wi-Fi will be available from tomorrow around parts of Hull City Centre ahead of City of Culture's opening event.

    You'll be able to pick it up in places such as Jameson Street, parts of the old town, Queen's Gardens and the Marina.

    A prolific thief has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to four burglaries in Grimsby in November and December 2015.

    Daniel Sleeth, 35, is already serving an eight year jail term for three burglaries and one attempted burglary in the town. 

    He committed the latest offences weeks before he was initially jailed at Grimsby Crown Court on Friday 8 January 2016. 

    Officers say he was a one-man crime wave.

  15. Boy, 16, hurt in Bransholme hit-and-runpublished at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2016

    A teenager has been injured in a hit-and-run incident in the Bransholme area of Hull.

    The 16-year-old had got off a bus and was trying to cross the road when he was hit at teatime on Friday 16 December.

    Police say the car, which didn't stop, could have been a taxi or Citroen Picasso.

    The boy was taken to hospital with a broken thumb and cuts and bruises.

  16. Safe stolen during nightclub raidpublished at 14:31 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2016

    Thieves who broke into a nightclub in Cleethorpes on Sunday night made off with a safe full of cash.

    Police say they're trying to track down the raiders, who struck at the Lite House Club on Sea Lane, Cleethorpes.

    Officers said the manager of the club came in to work at 08.00 yesterday to find the safe missing.

    It's believed that the offenders used ladders to gain access to the building.

    The Grimsby Institute has received an award for helping people achieve flexible access to education.

    The Institute's University Centre is open to help people with childcare issues or those who work around their studies.

    The principal says the facility must be as accessible as possible.

    This area is to get more than £2.5m to help disabled people live with greater independence.

    The money is coming from the Department for Health, who say it is designed to help with housing and technology.

    Hull will get more than £1m while the North and North East Lincolnshire Councils will receive more than £600,000 each.

    Officials hope the cash will also cut hospital admissions.
