    Two men who got into a taxi with a woman are wanted by police who are investigating a suspected rape, external.

    It's thought the woman was chatting to one of the men in the Vegas Grill in the Market Place at around 05:00 on Sunday 11 December. 

    She then got into a cab outside Teddies Bar and was joined by two men.

    Police want to speak to the two men and the taxi driver, who they say, may be key witnesses.

    Guy Martin has been forced to pull out of his latest record attempt.

    The North Lincolnshire rider had been trying to break the record for the fastest cycle around Britain. 

    He's stopped five days into the challenge because of an injury.

    Two fights in Grimsby which left one man with serious facial injuries are believed to be linked, external

    The first happened at the Friary (pictured) on Victoria Street on Thursday tea time where an argument left a 26-year-old man eventually needing hospital treatment. 

    Shortly after the first incident a second fight took place outside the County Hotel in Brighowgate.

    The body of a man has been found in a drain off Clough Road in Hull. 

    Police were called this morning to reports of a man in the water behind the stores on Clough Road. 

    Police say the man's body has now been recovered and inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.

    Drax Power station has moved a step closer to becoming greener after it was given permission to be fully powered by biomass. 

    The European Commission says it can upgrade another unit to run on wood pellets, meaning half of the power station will produce electricity from renewable sources. 

    In total, more than £650m has been spent at site to convert it away from coal.

    Investigations are continuing to find the source of an outbreak of bird flu at a farm in northern Lincolnshire.

    The disease was found in turkeys at a farm in Austen Fen, at Grainthorpe near Grimsby. 

    Around 5,000 birds were affected. Some had died already, while others were culled. 

    Officials from Defra have been assisting with the clean up.

    A memorial commemorating the lives of Hull trawlermen lost at sea has found a new home. 

    The Last Trip has moved from the previous home in Priory Park to Zebedee's Yard, the site of the old Trinity House School in Hull city centre. 

    The driving force behind the project, Andrew Fenton, says he hopes the memorial will convey the scale of the loss of life.

    This year's Festival of Christmas in Beverley was the most successful ever, according to the East Riding Council. 

    It says 60,000 people visited Beverley during the festival on Sunday 11 December.

    Female players will earn the same prize money as their male counterparts for the first time in the history of the prestigious British Squash Open next March. 

    The event will take place at the Airco Arena in Hull from March 19-26 and is sponsored by the Hull City owner Dr Assam Allam.

  17. Is Yorkshire missing out on flood defence money?published at 13:28 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

    Half of all the money earmarked for new flood defences in England will be spent on protecting London and areas around the Thames, official figures show.

    Analysis by BBC News has found £1.8bn will be spent on the Thames Estuary out of a £3.7bn national flood spending programme.

    About 16,000 homes were flooded across the North of England a year ago.

    The Environment Agency said it invested money "where it will have the most benefit".

    The disparity in regional flood defence spending comes as many flood victims remain out of their homes, 12 months after storms Desmond and Eva devastated parts of Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria.

    Spending on the Thames Estuary, external alone is expected to total at least £1.8bn, which is four times as much as will be spent on flood defences in the whole of Yorkshire and the Humber.

    A Hull MP is calling on the government to resolve "a crisis" in the prison system. 

    Karl Turner (pictured) claimed Hull prison was on the brink of a riot, after 15 prisoners from Birmingham were transferred there following a disturbance earlier this month. 

    The Justice Secretary, Elizabeth Truss will make a statement to Parliament this afternoon.

    A man's been punched to the floor and robbed in Hull, external

    It happened just after midnight on Friday when the man was walking home from work along Inglemire Lane. 

    Officers say he was confronted by two men who demanded money and cigarettes from him and was punched in the head when he said he didn't have any.

    The men are described as Asian and in their late teens or early 20's. 

    Police are asking anyone who might have any information to call the 101 number.

  20. Pensioner burgled days before Christmaspublished at 12:17 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

    pensioner from Beverley has been burgled, external over the weekend. 

    The attack happened in the Grovehill Road area between Friday lunchtime and Saturday evening when a kitchen window was smashed. 

    The 72-year-old came home to find a number of items had been taken.

    The stolen items include an engraved gold Tissot men's watch with a bracelet style strap, a black Panasonic camcorder, a black Pixipro digital camera and 64 packets of Turner Tobacco. 

    Police are appealing for information.
