    In 2015, Hull was named in a survey as the least romantic city in the country, but two years later the tables have turned.

    The city has been named in the top three alternative city breaks by travel guide company Rough Guide.

    Hull was behind Manchester and Bristol, but was above Derby and Belfast, which made up the rest of the top five.

    It follows a mention in other lists too, with Hull recently making it into a top 10 emerging destinations list, with the city coming in ninth place.

    Well if you live in North East Lincolnshire, your broadband is among the fastest in the country, according to the consumer organisation Which?

    It comes four years after a campaign by North East Lincolnshire residents to improve internet speeds in the area.

  3. £27m boost for Hull's maritime attractionspublished at 08:22 British Summer Time 27 June 2017

    There's some more exciting news for Hull this morning: The city council says more than £27m is going to be spent on renovating the Hull's maritime attractions to secure the city's future as a major UK tourist destination.

    Some of the money will be used to build a new home for the trawler Arctic Corsair, which tells the story of Hull's fishing industry.

    There will also be improvements to the Maritime Museum (pictured), including the creation of a viewing area in one of the domes at the top of the building.

    A total of £15m has been awarded from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the City Council is putting a further £12.5m into the programme.

    A "merciless" carer who stole nearly £290,000 from a 102-year-old woman has been jailed for nine years.

    Julie Sayles, 59, from Bridlington in East Yorkshire, bought two houses with money she took from a bank account she shared with Edith Negus.

    She was found guilty of six charges at Hull Crown Court, including fraud by abuse of position.

    One of the properties she bought was in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, and the other in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

    Don't be alarmed though, it's all part of a production called (In)visible Dancing and is part of the Hull City of Culture 2017 celebrations.

    More and more dancers will take part as the week progresses and it'll culminate in a big finale in Victoria Square on Saturday 1 July:

  16. Teenager arrested following suspected knife incidentpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 26 June 2017

    A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of affray following an alleged knife incident in Grimsby at the weekend.

    Officers were called to reports that a man was on Willingham Street in the town with a knife.

    They say officers found a number of men arguing, and a 16-year-old boy from Grimsby was arrested.

  17. Freedom parades to take place in East Yorkshire townspublished at 16:46 British Summer Time 26 June 2017

    More than 100 soldiers are due to march through Beverley and Bridlington later this week.

    Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment will exercise their freedom rights in the towns on Friday.

    It means they have the right to parade through the towns with their bayonets fixed, colour flying and bands playing.

    The event will start at about 11:00 at New Walk in Beverley and at about 14:30 at Bridlington Spa.

    The family of a 102-year-old Bridlington woman say they were devastated after finding out her carer had stolen thousands of pounds from her and persuaded her to change her will.

    Julie Sayles, 59, of Sewerby Road, Bridlington, has been sentenced to nine years in prison after she bought two houses with money she took from a bank account she shared with Edith Negus.

    Sayles was convicted of six charges at Hull Crown Court, including fraud by abuse of position, as well as making a fraudulent will and presenting it to a solicitor.

    Speaking on behalf of the family outside Hull Crown Court, Ann Ruthuen (pictured), a great-niece of Ms Negus, who died in 2014, said:

    Edith was a beautiful, kind, lovely woman who had many family and friends who loved her dearly. This investigation has been stressful, causing anxiety and it has devastated many of us. We have been unable to grieve for aunt Edith."

    East Yorkshire tennis player Kyle Edmund has suffered a first-round defeat by American Donald Young at Eastbourne.

    Young, the world number 47, registered a 6-4 3-6 6-3 victory over Edmund in just over two-and-a-half hours.

    Edmund, 22 from Tickton, has lost 13 of his past 16 matches on the grass courts.

  20. Driffield shop broken into twice in a weekpublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 26 June 2017

    A mobile phone shop in Driffield has had thousands of pounds worth of stock stolen after being broken into twice in one week.

    Thieves targeted the shop on Market Place overnight on Sunday 18 June and again on Friday 23 June, according to Humberside Police.

    Officers say cash and sim cards worth more than £5,000 were stolen.
