    Humberside Police's new Chief Constable is the "right person" to take on the job, according to Police and Crime Commissioner Keith Hunter.

    A carer from Bridlington who stole £290,000 from a 102-year-old woman has been sentenced to nine years in prison.

    Jule Sayles, 59, of Sewerby Road, Bridlington, also persuaded Edith Negus (pictured) - who died in 2014 - to change her will.

    She was found guilty by a jury at Hull Crown Court earlier.

    Police area appealing for witnesses after two 12-year-old girls were left injured after being hit by a moped in Barton upon Humber last month.

    The girls suffered minor cuts and bruises in the incident on Preston Lane, near the junction of Caistor Road, on Thursday 25 May.

    Anyone who saw what happened is being asked to contact police.

    A former charity worker from Bridlington has been found guilty of stealing more than £290,000 from a 102-year-old woman.

    Julie Sayles, 59, of Sewerby Road, Bridlington, has been found guilty at Hull Crown Court of fraud by abuse of position, as well as making a fraudulent will and presenting it to a solicitor.

    During her trial, the court heard that she persuaded Edith Negus to change her will to benefit her

    She also bought two houses with money she took from a joint bank account she shared with Mrs Negus, the court was told.

    She is due to be sentenced this afternoon.

    A minute's silence will be held across the country at midday in remembrance of those affected by the terrorist attack at Finsbury Park in London last week.

    People were leaving prayers when a van was driven into worshippers near the mosque in the early hours of last Monday, killing one and leaving nine others in hospital.

    Darren Osborne, 47, from Cardiff, was arrested after the incident and has been charged with murder and attempted murder.

    It's our region's answer to the BBC's MasterChef, and today 13 promising young cooks are battling it out for a place in the final of the Copper Saucepan competition.

    The chefs go head-to-head at Hull College preparing a three-course meal for a judging panel.

    The top two competitors will compete in the final at the Beverley Food festival in October, with work experience at a top North Lincolnshire restaurant up for grabs.

    The new Chief Constable of Humberside Police has been confirmed by the Police and Crime Panel.

    Lee Freeman, who was named as the preferred candidate for the role last month, will take up the role immediately.

    The job had been vacant since the former Chief Constable, Justine Curran, took early retirement in February.

    Market traders in Grimsby say the closure of BHS last year has had a serious impact on their trade.

    The department store near Top Town Market closed last August and has been empty ever since.

    North East Lincolnshire is now encouraging traders to set up stalls at the market.

    It has started a new scheme which includes offering reduced rents and incentives for new stallholders.

    A partnership set up to tackle the problem of modern slavery in the Humber region, says it is starting to deliver results.

    The Humber Modern Slavery Partnership was set up two years ago and involves Humberside Police, four councils, charities and other organisations.

    The partnerships says it has identified a number of new cases, where people have been forced work for little or no pay and forced to live in squalid conditions.

    Hull's latest piece of public art will be officially opened today.

    Trinity Square has been re-paved and now features eight large "mirror pools" which when filled with water reflect the stained glass windows of Hull Minster.

    Hull City Council says the square has almost doubled in size after the works, which were part of a £25m regeneration of the city centre.
