The Police and Crime commissioner for Humberside Police (pictured) says the force is reaching breaking point and extra investment is needed after a 20% increase in calls to 999.

    Keith Hunter

In a statement, the government says it has protected overall police spending in real terms since the Spending Review in 2015 and this year Humberside Police is receiving £2m more direct resource funding than in 2015/16.

    Quote Message

There has to be a realisation that with growing demand there is a limit to where efficiency can take us and... if there's demand now, it needs to be resourced now. The police service at the moment is stretched to the point of breaking."
