A Song for Hull, made up of poems written by primary school children across the city, will be performed for the first time this evening.

About 240 children from eight schools will be joined by local rapper Nineties Boy, the Garnett family who were on Britain's Got Talent, the NHS choir for Hull and East Yorkshire and the X Factor's G4 star Jonathan Ansell, for the performance at Hull City Hall.

On Monday tickets will be available for this year's Children in Need event.

Our 'Dames in Need' challenge is aiming to get 250 pantomime dames performing at once.

It'll take place at Hymers College in Hull on Friday 17 November.

Tickets are free but limited to four per person.

Humberside Police say the slow moving lorry that was heading between York and the Port of Hull via the A1079 and A1035 today, has reached its destination.

A similar load will also make the journey on Tuesday 24 October 2017.

There are calls for drivers to be more considerate towards cyclists on the roads of East Yorkshire after a university lecturer found himself the victim of a hit and run.

Professor Mark Lorch was struck by a driver in Cottingham on the way home from his job at the University of Hull.

The incident was caught on camera, but when Humberside Police caught up with the driver, who didn't stop at the scene, they told him to be more careful in future.

Professor Lorch says more needs to be done and people should take more care.

Humberside Police say cycling is getting more popular and luckily the collisions haven't gone up at the same rate as cycling is increasing so it is still pretty safe in our area.

A butcher's shop in Grimsby which recently celebrated its 125th anniversary has closed.

Insolvency firm Kingsbridge confirmed John Pettit and Sons will stop trading with immediate effect.

It comes just months after it closed another of its stores in Cleethorpes.

The company says it's recently lost significant contracts to supply the catering trade, from which it has been unable to recover.

It's one of the East Riding's busiest roads with 30,000 vehicles travelling the route each day.

Now the council's secured £3m of government funding to build a new roundabout on the A164 between the Humber Bridge and Beverley.

There's currently a staggered junction on the A164 near Kirkella, between Great Gutter Lane and Riplingham Road.

It's hoped the four-way roundabout will reduce congestion and improve road safety.

It could be another two weeks before an unsafe building on Beverley Road is demolished.

I spoke to a workman who told me the demolition was proving to be tricky.

Part of Beverley Road was closed just over a week ago as an unstable building is being demolished.

Council inspectors found 394-396 Beverley Road to be unsafe and said one lane would be closed for seven days to allow for the demolition.

That period has now been extended due to the extent of deterioration of the building, and the recent high winds.

The southbound lane between Ryde Street and May street is closed.

The northbound lanes are being used for two-way traffic and the bus lane is temporarily suspended.

There's a flood warning in place for parts of Bridlington tomorrow morning.

That means flooding is expected and immediate action is required.

Wave over-topping is expected around Harbour Road and the Floral Pavillion between 05:30 and 06:30 Saturday 21 October 2017.

A new £9m care centre in Hull which aims to keep people out of hospital is to be named after 95-year-old Jean Bishop - Hull's Bee Lady:

Jean's been collecting money for charity dressed as a giant bee for the past 18 years and has raised a total of £119,00 for Age UK since she started collecting.

She received a Pride of Britain Award back in 2013 and has becoming a local celebrity in the process:

The £9m Integrated Care Center aims to transform care for older people with long term health conditions.

The idea is to keep them out of hospital by treating them in a specialist center.

Built on the site of the former David Lister School in East Hull, the center will be open seven days a week.

It will be known at The Jean Bishop Integrated Care Center when it opens in April 2018.

Scunthorpe United are reportedly set to sign former Reading striker and Welsh international Simon Church.

Nobody from the club has been available for comment so far, but one national journalist is claiming the Iron are signing the 28-year-old who's currently a free agent following his release by Dutch side Roda.

Church is a former Reading youth who scored 49 goals in 274 career club appearances.

Union representatives from BAE say they plan to increase pressure on politicians and step up their campaign to save jobs in East Yorkshire.

Last week, the company announced plans to cut 400 jobs at its Brough site.

Unite union officials called for the government to commit to ordering Hawk jets for the Red Arrows, saying that would protect jobs and mean the planes would continue to be made in Britain.

Union representatives have been meeting with management this morning about what happens next at Brough and plan to travel to London to meet senior ministers ahead of Prime Minister's Questions next week.

BAE says consultations with staff are continuing and they're looking for people to come forward so they can avoid compulsory redundancies.

The career of Hull City's record signing, Ryan Mason, will be decided after another round of scans in January.

The midfielder still hasn't been cleared to return to training after suffering a fractured skull in January this year.

Hull City Head Coach Leonid Slutsky says the scans will dictate Mason's future.

The club is also working on making specialist head gear, to help speed up Mason's recovery.

Police in Hull have arrested 24 people suspected of having links to organised crime, external.

There have been raids in the Great Thornton Street Estate area.

Officers have been trying to catch criminals wanted for things like violent crime, out of town drug dealing and money laundering.

They've also been looking at people who might be taking part in 'cuckooing'.

It's a tactic used by drug gangs. They take over the home of vulnerable people, such as sex workers, drug addicts and those with mental health problems, force them to let someone live with them and take over their home as a base for drug dealing.

More than £20k worth of drugs such as heroin and cocaine have been seized as part of the operation.

Almost 2,000 houses are standing empty in North East Lincolnshire and now owners of the properties are being warned they'll pay extra council tax if they're left empty for more than two years.

North East Lincolnshire Council is trying to tackle the issue of empty homes and bring them back into use.

Almost 700 homes have been empty for more than two years.

The chief officer of the body responsible for buying health services for GPs and hospitals in North Lincolnshire, Liane Langdon, has stepped down.

It comes just three months after NHS England rated the North Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group as "Inadequate, external".

The CCG was recently placed "under formal directions" by NHS England to bring the health system in North Lincolnshire back into financial balance.

New fast food restaurants could be banned from opening within 400m of Hull's secondary schools.

The proposal is to be voted on in a city council meeting next week.

The authority said it is part of a wider programme to tackle childhood obesity.

New figures from NHS Digital published this week said that 36.5% of Hull children in their final year of primary school were classed as either being overweight or obese.

The report also revealed that 28.3% of children aged five and six were either overweight or obese when they first started at school.

A council spokeswoman said the ban would only apply to new fast food restaurants, existing businesses would not be forced to close.

A retired vicar, who was convicted in March of sexually abusing a boy, has been released by senior judges at the Court of Appeal.

The Reverend David Ernest Fletcher, of Pulham Lane in Wetwang, was jailed for three years at Bradford Crown Court (pictured),in March.

The 63-year-old had sexually abused a boy at a smallholding in Queensbury near Bradford in the 1980s.

Top judges have now agreed the sentence was excessive and have reduced it to one year. That effectively means Mr Fletcher can be released immediately.

His lawyers argue his convictions are unsafe and should be overturned. The Court of Appeal will look at that case at a later date.
