  2. Hull man charged following rooftop incidentpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 19 October 2017

    A 19-year-old Hull man, who was arrested yesterday after taking to a rooftop in the city for around 20 hours, has now been charged.

    Joe Bramham of Wombwell Grove in Hull is charged with 2 counts of affray, breaching a molestation order, possession of a bladed article and causing a public nuisance.

    He is due to appear at Hull Magistrates Court today.

  3. Watch: Man rescued after 'tombstoning' off Flamborough cliffspublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 19 October 2017

    There are fresh warnings today about the dangers of jumping from cliffs into the sea.

    It's after the RNLI rescued a man who jumped from the cliffs at Flamborough yesterday.

    He managed to climb into a cave after his jump and await rescue, only suffering minor cuts and bruises.

    The Maritime & Coastguard Agency has released this footage of the rescue from their helicopter in the hope of stopping people from doing it in the future.

    Tourists could be taxed when they stay in Hull in the future.

    Many European cities already have a policy where a charge is added to hotel bookings.

    The City Council is now exploring whether a similar system would work here and the money generated would go back into its tourism marketing budget.

    A campaigner from East Yorkshire is warning that a drug used to treat people with epilepsy should not be used by pregnant women.

    The sodium valproate drug carries a 10% risk of birth defects if used by women during pregnancy.

    Julie Robinson from Market Weighton has a grown-up daughter born with disabilities after taking the drug while pregnant and she wants to raise awareness of the dangers.

    About 20,000 children have been harmed by the drug since the 1970s. The medicines regulator says the drug has been kept under constant review.

    A debate will take place in parliament later today on the issue.

    The Transport Secretary, Chris Grayling, has agreed to meet the Hull West and Hessle MP to discuss plans to improve the A63 Castle Street.

    Earlier this week she raised the matter as a point of order in the House of Commons.

    A 34-year-old man was knocked unconscious and suffered serious head injuries after being assaulted in Goole town centre.

    The incident happened on Saturday 30 September at 01:15 on Aire Street near the Capricorn nightclub (pictured). Police are appealing for witnesses.

    A four-year-old boy has suffered serious injuries after being hit by a cyclist in Hull.

    The incident happened on Goddard Avenue with the junction of Newland Avenue yesterday afternoon.

    Police say the child, whose injuries were serious but not thought to be life-threatening, was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment.

    The Coastguard in Hull is urging people not to walk on the mud near the River Hull and the Humber.

    It comes as they say they're seeing a rise in the number of calls they receive.

  15. North Lincolnshire conman jailed for 20 monthspublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 18 October 2017

    A conman who fleeced victims out of money in an internet scam before fleeing to Spain has been jailed for 20 months.

    Norman Fowler (pictured) from Goxhill sold goods on internet auction sites but never sent them to buyers.

    He stole £21,000 from nine people in 2013.

    He was arrested in Europe and brought back to England for trial.

    He was sentenced to 20 months in prison for nine counts of fraud by false representation at Chelmsford Crown Court yesterday.

  16. Untaxed tobacco and alcohol seizedpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 18 October 2017

    Tax and customs officers seized almost 15,000 cigarettes from businesses in Grismby and Scunthorpe in a series of raids.

    HMRC staff seized 14,450 cigarettes, 6.2kg of hand rolling tobacco, 12.2kg of shisha tabacco and 7,944 litres of alcohol in the inspections last week.

    It equated to £16,226 in evaded duty.

    in the same visits, British Gas investigators found gas and electric irregularities at four locations. One of them, a business in Grimsby, was given a bill of £26,000.

  17. Hull's Sikh community 'mistaken for Islamic extremists'published at 16:05 British Summer Time 18 October 2017

    Some members of Hull's Sikh community say they've suffered verbal abuse because people mistake them for Islamic extremists.

    They say the problem is heightened when there's a terrorist attack in the UK.

    They want better religious education in schools so children know more about different faiths.

    It's also hoped that a new Sikh temple can be built in the city because of the increasing number of Sikhs in the area.

  18. Main road in Hull reopens after rooftop incidentpublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 18 October 2017

    Beverley Road has now reopened after an earlier incident with a teenager on a roof.

    The road has been closed for almost 24 hours after a 19-year-old man took to the roof of a building on Beverley Road yesterday afternoon.

    It was closed for the public's safety and remained closed this afternoon so that buildings on the road could be assessed for damage.

    Hull City Council and Humberside Police say the road has now reopened.

  19. Woman 'pushed into bush' during street robberypublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 18 October 2017

    Police are searching for a gang of three men who are alleged to have punched a woman in the face and shoved her into undergrowth before stealing her phone and cash.

    Police say the 40-year-old victim was walking along Cleethorpes Road in Grimsby at around 11.00 on Monday morning when she says she was robbed.

    One of the men involved was described as in his 50s, around 5ft 6ins, skinny, and with grey stubble. He was wearing a blue jacket and baseball cap.

    The other men have been described as in their 20s and wearing blue jackets.

  20. Hull teenager who took to a roof faces chargespublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 18 October 2017

    A 19-year-old Hull man has been arrested for a number of offences after taking to a rooftop yesterday afternoon.

    The incident lasted for around 20 hours and caused traffic problems in and around the city.

    The teenager has been arrested on suspicion of breaching a non-molestation order, criminal damage, affray, assault and public nuisance offences associated with the rooftop incident.

    Beverley Road remains closed as buildings are assessed for damage.
