  2. Main road in Hull closed due to man on roofpublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

    A main road in and out of Hull has been closed in both directions because a man has taken to the roof of one of the buildings.

    The police cordon has been put in place on Beverley Road at the junction with Freetown Way and Fountain Road (pictured) for public safety.

    It's expected to cause travel problems this evening and police are appealing for people to avoid the area.

    An inquest into the death of a man who fell ill on his way to the Radio 1 Big Weekend in May has recorded a verdict of misadventure.

    Calum Gill, 21, fell ill on the shuttle bus from Hull station to the event at Burton Constable Hall after taking the drug MDMA - more commonly known as ecstasy.

    In last few minutes, it's been confirmed by Humberside Police that a 65-year-old man has died during an incident involving a fork lift truck at Swift Caravans in Cottingham.

    They add that they're currently assisting with an investigation into the incident with the Health and Safety Executive.

    The Swift Group has responded to the death of one of their workers by saying they are "deeply saddened" and "our thoughts at this time are with the family".

    The incident occoured at the company's manufacturing site this morning in Cottingham.

    They added: "At this stage it is too early to establish how this incident occurred but The Swift Group will be co-operating fully with any investigation that is launched."

    A worker who police said was "seriously injured" has died at Swift Caravans in Cottingham the company has confirmed.

    Emergency services were called to Swift Caravans on Dunswell Road in Cottingham shortly after 10:00 BST.

    Humberside Fire and Rescue Service sent two fire crews and a specialist rescue support unit to the site.

    Police said their investigation was ongoing and the Health and Safety Executive was in attendance.

    Police have confirmed that an 11-year-old girl from Hull who's been missing for 24 hours has disappeared with a 12-year-old friend.

    Leah Taylor (pictured left) and Leah Smith (pictured right) haven't been seen since yesterday.

    Leah Taylor's family say she has no coat, and no phone and her disappearance is completely out of character.

    Police say they're concerned.

    Thirteen sunken boats have been removed from the River Hull between Tickton and Beverley Beck.

    The work in September was done to improve the flow of the river benefiting thousands of people in high-risk flood areas.

    Union officials are heading to London today to ask the government to help save jobs at BAE Systems in Brough.

    Last week it was announced 400 jobs could go at the site, which makes parts for the Hawk aircraft (pictured).

    Members of the Trade Union Unite will raise the issue at meetings with MPs in Westminster over the next three days.

    Anyone who wants to keep one of the 16,000 bricks made by school children in Hull for a City of Culture exhibition should go along to the C4Di building at 13:00 on Sunday 5 November.

    You may remember yesterday we told you about a campaign to save the bricks as some people were concerned they'd be destroyed after the exhibition but now people are being allowed to take them home.

    The bricks will be allocated at random and there'll be two further times and dates when people can collect them which City of Culture will confirm on their Facebook and Twitter pages.

    Humberside Police have confirmed that a worker at Swift Caravans has sustained serious injuries in an incident at the factory on Dunswell Road in Cottingham.

    The police were called just after 10:00 this morning.

    Ambulance and fire crews as well as the Health and Safety Executive are also in attendance.
