Now proposals for a reservoir upstream of the town have been approved. The earth dam would hold back flood water after heavy rain.

But officials are warning the scheme will depend on a new development of about 200 homes going ahead east of Mile End Park.

Officials say the existence of the dam project won't influence their decision on the housing scheme.

When you're running at 90% occupancy it's great, come January/February when I suspect the average Hull hotel won't be at those levels I think a tourist tax would be another disincentive when actually the city wants to welcome everyone it can.
