  5. Future of 21 Yorkshire schools under scrutinypublished at 09:31 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2017

The future of 21 schools across Yorkshire is due to be discussed by Wakefield Council later.

    Wakey

In September, Wakefield City Academies Trust said it no longer wanted to run the schools, which are in West, South and East Yorkshire.

Only four of the schools were rated as good or outstanding by education watchdog Ofsted and the trust decided to walk away from them because it didn't feel it could make improvements quickly enough.

The Department for Education is now trying to find new sponsors to run them.

The motion being debated this afternoon has been put forward by Labour councillor Kevin Swift, who says academies should be able to move back to council control if something like this happens in the future.

Those behind ambitious plans for Grimsby are hoping today's budget will bring commitment from the government.

    Grimsby Docks

The Greater Grimsby Town Deal aims to bring more than 5,000 jobs and nearly 8,000 new homes to the area.

Plans include spending £20m on the Riverhead Square cinema and restaurant development, with a sports and leisure plan for the recently- bought Victoria Mills.

Figures from the private and public sector are working together to regenerate the area.

North East Lincolnshire Council approved the plans earlier this year and are waiting on a decision from central government.
