The sister of a Hull woman held in Egypt on drug smuggling charges has apologised to the Egyptian government.
Laura Plummer, 33, was arrested last month accused of entering the country with 300 Tramadol tablets, a painkiller legal in the UK but not in Egypt.
Today her sister, Rachel Plummer has issued a statement in support of Egypt:
“On behalf of all of Laura’s family, I would like to place on record our gratitude for the fairness and just manner the Egyptian justice system has shown towards Laura. We realise Laura has unintentionally done wrong in the eyes of the Egyptian authorities; a totally innocent action that has resulted in her being held in custody by the police in Hurghada.”
“Laura, along with all of us, loves Egypt and upon visits to see Laura we have been happy with the professional and fair way the police officers have been with Laura and we would like to apologise for bringing such trouble to your country. We trust Laura is in good hands and will be treated fairly.”
Laura Plummer's drug smuggling charges has been referred to a criminal court for trial.

Titled Floe, the installation is among the final major commissions marking Hull's year as UK City of Culture.
Artists Anna Heinrich and Leon Palmer said they wanted to "virtually reshape and remodel the architectural façade".
Quote MessageWe want to create a sense of drama and depth using projection, light and sound... When we delved into Sir Terry Farrell’s vision and conceptual approach to designing the building, we uncovered various images and ideas that sparked our imagination.

Figures published by North East Lincolnshire Council suggest the number of serious accidents has increased on some of Grimsby's roads after 20 mph zones were put in place.
You've been getting in touch with us on our Facebook page, external to tell us what you think:
Quote MessageThe trick with 20 mph limits is for them to be temporary while schools are opening and closing. Also enforce this with cameras similar to those which monitor the variable speed limits on motorways which adjust according to the limit in force."
Xander
Quote MessageSpeed limits may exist, but give most drivers a clear road and they're going to go as fast as they want. See it every day, no matter where you go in the country."
Gary
Quote MessageSpeed limits are a good thing, but what will stop people exceeding that limit? Nothing. There are no enforcements like cameras or checks. I live in a 30 zone and it might as well be a 60 as people don’t care."
